An article By Susan Jacoby in the New York Times about atheism entitled It is Here and It Is Now suggests, among other things, that the absence of an afterlife lends a greater, not a lesser, moral importance to our actions on earth. Tonights discussion will also include Doestoevsky's story within the Brothers Karamazov "The Grand Inquisitor." We will discuss the relationship of atheism and democracy and whether or not a real democracy and full citizenship can exist in a theistic and religious society
