How often do you think about your personal mortality, your day of departing this world? What will your final thoughts and last words be? Do you have a prepared statement for your tombstone? Why not?
Nearness to death, our own or the death of others, can jolt us into the realization that our life perhaps has not been what it was meant to be. Have we failed to live up to our ideals? What can we do about it, right now?
For the Christian, this focus on what we may be thinking as we die can help us to evaluate the direction of our remaining life. For the atheist, pondering your final thoughts might help you find your way to faith.
As you lie on your death bed, will you be ashamed of your life? Will you be proud of your selfishness and hedonistic pursuits? Will you bitterly regret your backsliding or your disregard of the teachings of Jesus?
Think NOW about what you'll think about on your death bed.
The theme of this sermon exists as a music video -- Str8 Sounds "On Your Death Bed".
