How Do I Build My Business In A Slow Economy?
By Dr. Ivan Misner and Bertrand McHenry

When the economy is slow, new business is harder to get.  What can you do to build your business in a recessionary economy?

It’s been about ten years since our last recession in the United States.  For the most part, the U.S. economy has been strong and business has been good for the last decade.  However, the fact is that the economy goes through cycles and business has slowed down for many people.  Unfortunately, every time it takes a downturn, the fallout is felt strongly by salespeople, business owners, and professionals alike.

Community Versus Team

When talking with business owners I often hear them talking about the challenge of creating teamwork within their organization to foster growth and competitiveness. Much has been written about creating a team, getting the members to buy-in to the team concept, and nurturing the team. Although the teamwork concept is widespread, we may make more progress by embracing the theory of building a community rather than a team.

Let’s explore; Merriam - Webster defines a team as a group on one side. Further, Merriam – Webster defines a community as a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society.
