Just listened to today's show...and all I can say is WOW! I love how your second caller called you a communist and then just hung up....I guess he really didn't have the knowledge to have a decent conversation with you. Once he heard that you were voting for McCain, he decided that the best response was to call you a name and get himself out of a situation which would have left him looking foolish. And your last caller bringing up September 11 when it wasn't even relevent...he seriously couldn't come up with a better argument? I love the show though...Keep doing what you do best Steve!

  • Date / Time:

A little segment from our guest Rodney Tahe

It goes without saying that the Republican Party is taking a dreadful thrashing right now. Conservatives are unmotivated, Democrats are obliterating Republicans in the fundraising arena, and the Republican’s poll numbers have dropped off a cliff. The face of the Republican Party, President George W. Bush, has an approval rating of 30% and according to Rasmussen Reports 41.4% of Americans considers themselves to be Democrats while only 31.4% say they are Republicans. What’s even disheartening, voters trust Democrats more than Republicans on the economy, government ethics, the war in Iraq, health care, Social Security, education, immigration, and abortion.

Although the Republican Party still have an edge on taxes and national security, we have to wondering “how are Republicans going to compete in 2008 if they cede all those other issues to the Party of Slavery?” That’s something Republicans are just going to have to figure out. How do you win an election or elections when your supporters are unenthusiastic, sick of your political party, and unwilling to donate money? In 2006, the Republican Party lost 6 seats in the Senate and 30 seats in the House. Although it’s far too early to say for sure, judging by the direction the political winds are blowing, it would not surprise me if the Republican Party lost another 4 seats in the Senate and an additional 10 seats in the House this time around.

So why does the Republican Party seem to be trapped in a recurring political nightmare? There are overabundances of different reasons: the war in Iraq, gas prices, a soft economy, the never ending corruption scandals, the illegal immigration brouhaha, out-of-control spending, etc… However, there is one overriding problem that dwarfs all the others, a problem that few people in the leadership of the Republican Party seem to have come to grips with. That problem is that conservatives, who are the heart and soul of the Republican Party, no longer believe that the Republican Party has their best interests at heart. And I’m one of those conservatives.

That’s not to say that there’s no difference between the two political parties because there is. However, to many conservatives, the Republican Party has ceased to be an organization that serves their interests and has become merely an allied organization that shares many, but not all, of the same critical goals. That may seem like a small distinction, but it’s an important one. Conservatives will stay up late volunteering for a campaign, will donate whatever amount of money they can, and will crawl over broken glass to put a candidate in DC that’s “on their side.”

However, it’s a totally different ball game when we’re talking about mere allies. Why give money and spend precious time volunteering on the campaigns of candidates who are going to turn right around and cut you off at the knees when it comes to spending and illegal immigration once they get to DC?  So until the Republicans can repair that breach of faith and convince conservatives that the Republican Party has the same goals as conservatives do on issues like spending, the size of government, and illegal immigration, the Republican Party may win a few battles, but it’s going to slowly and surely lose the war for the future of our country.

    Get ready!

Good afternoon everyone!  First of all thank you for visiting the profile page of The Stephen Dinkel Program!  This is going to be a lot of fun and I hope everyone enjoys the show this Thursday and also the shows to come!  I really want to make this show entertaining and worth people's time, so any suggestions are great to hear!

Another thing I want to stress is that this show is not going to be all about politics.  This is about anything and everything!  So be prepared to talk about Toaster Strudels because those things are so darn good that they deserve a segment!

The length of the show is not final.  The show right now is for an hour, but I am quite sure it is going to expand.  Also, if you can't access the show live, the show will be ready to broadcast from the profile page itself, all you have to do is click play on the show you want to hear!

Finally, I want to thank everyone for visiting again and I look forward to hearing from you all!

Please feel free to leave any comments on the page and I will write back as soon as I can!
