According to reports, the Toronto Blue Jays offered the New York Mets a trade to send pitcher, Roy Halladay to the Mets for Fernando Martinez (outfielder), Jon Niese (pitcher), Bobby Parnell (pitcher) and Rueben Tejada (shortstop).
Sources from the Mets reported that this deal was never considered.
The Blue Jays are currently 46-48 and 10 games back of the lead in the AL East. If the playoffs were to begin tomorrow, the Blue Jays would not be participating..
Blue Jays general manager, J.P. Ricciardi, has decided to shop Halladay around to receive some good quality players in-return.
Many people were hoping for the Mets to make this move, but is it really needed? The Mets problem happens to be their line-up and their field play. With the injuries the Mets suffered this season regarding players such as Jose Reyes (shortstop), Carlos Delgado (first baseman), and Carlos Beltran (center fielder) has caused many problems for them.
Halladay is the best pitcher in Major League Baseball, but that doesn't mean every team should be fighting to land him. The Mets should focus on their first need which has to be the line-up. This line-up has trouble providing run support for their starting pitchers and Halladay won't change that.
Minaya should continue to search for line-up help, because Mets need the most improvement in this category.
J.P. Ricciardi believes the chance of Halladay getting traded is "slim," since there have not been any teams seriously pursuing him as of late. The asking price is high, but how can you blame Ricciardi? This is Halladay were talking about.
The Philadelphia Phillies have been a candidate, but they've haven't made any offer. Landing Halladay would be more than helpful for the Phillies since they are in need of improving their pitching. Even though I do not believe the Mets need Halladay, if the Phillies get Halladay, the Mets chances of winning the NL East are "finished" for many years to come.

I'm a pretty even keel Mets fan. I try to be honest without being overly negative or blindly positive. In fact, nothing irks me more than the knee-jerk reaction (which, given that Fan is short for FANATIC, is admittedly irrational on my part). You'll learn this about me as I post more regularly, but I start tonight with a quick, interesting tidbit, given recent talk about the Mets' prospects.
For those who deride the Mets' system, here's a bone for you.
John Lannan of Long Beach, Long Island, just threw a complete game shutout against the Mets. He's thrown 18 straight scoreless innings against the Mets, and came into tonight's game with a 3.64 ERA...better than all Mets starters except Santana.
Keep in mind, he played 30 minutes from Shea in high school.
Lannan was taken in the 11th round of the 2005 draft. The Mets' last pick before Lannan in that draft? A kid named Courtney Billingsley, of Dayton, Ohio. An outfielder, Billingsley hit .184 in two seasons in Rookie ball before the Mets cut him loose.
Of course, lots of teams missed the boat on Lannan. But that he's a local guy, for some reason, irritates me just a bit more.
Enjoy the brief entry...I'll ramble on plenty in others

According to a guy who has been proven to know a lot about the things going on in the world of baseball ( Jon Heyman ), The Mets will not get Roy Halladay anytime soon. Part of the reason why is they are not willing to part with any of the prospects the Blue Jays want. I am not really sure if the Mets should get rid of all of the guys the Blue Jays want, but my question is shouldn't they at least see if they could ask the Blue Jays if they can tweak the trade a little ? Just because the Blue Jays asked for Fernando Martinez, Jon Niese, Bobby Parnell, and shortstop prospect Rueben Tejada does not mean they may change their minds about the trade without the Mets giving all these prspects ( probably the only ones they have ) away.
In the past teams have changed their mind when trading with other teams. This was only the Jays first offer. It is obvious the Mets really just wanted again to make beleive they are interested here. It also could be the fact it is possible the Mets realize ( Like Heyman said in his article ) Halladay will not help the team enough to even get them to the playoffs.
With all this being said, If you were Halladay, would you come to the Mets? This is a team that most likely will not make the playoffs, so if you were Hallday why would go to the Mets ?
I will continue to see what happens with thisdrama ( ok, not really a drama ). I know Santana came here without getting too much, but too much tells me it just won't work out this time. With or without Halladay, Mets fans better look toward next year.
