We will provide Disadvantaged At Risk Youth the opportunity to increase literacy and introduction to the arts while allowing up and coming authors’ exposure for their work. At-Risk youth will also be introduced to positive role models and empowering self image concepts. The chapter will sponsor a Stop the Violence Movement bi-annually. The purpose of the movement is to empower our communities to take action against the senseless violent crimes that have plagued our cities throughout the nation. The event will bring together authors, lyricists, musicians, artists, community activists, clergy, law enforcement, former gang members, government leadership, and families of all socio-economic backgrounds that have lost loved ones through gang violence. The event will feature live musical performances, presentations, personal testimonies, remarks and informative literature from local talent. We will provide media coverage and interview individuals on WESL TV26, and our BTR radio show. In addition to providing a forum for a local talent showcase, the chapter will provide books to area youth in a book walk, sponsor an essay contest, and host a candlelight vigil to remember victims of violence.
