Over the weekend I met with a business colleague to share what we do in our business and discuss ways to network as women entrepreneurs. This was our first introduction to each other and our discussion flowed from business strategies to ways we connect our soul and spirituality with all aspects of our lives. The conversation was synergistic, heartfelt and inspiring. I was surprised by the way the conversation of work and business seem to flow naturally into a soulful conversation on spirituality. As we left, this business colleague placed in my hand a $100 bill. She said to me that she felt moved to give this to me - a free gift, no strings attached as a way of affirming what I do in business. She encouraged me to continue to do what I do even in the midst of a challenging economy. I thanked her immensely and I told her that I would definitely pay this forward. I left feeling overwhelmed with gratitude. This is the first time I have ever had someone thank me with a monetary gift after our first initial meeting. The gift was a total surprise, totally unexpected, and I can’t wait to “pay it forward” with someone else.
Here are some ways to tend to your soul this week:
Be mindful of the gifts you have received in your life; spend time reflecting on your talents and how you can share these with others.
Share one of your gifts with a friend or total stranger. This can be an act of kindness, an affirming word, or a monetary gift. Be creative and intentional about “paying it forward.”
Give your gift as a surprise, as a random act of generosity, and give freely with no strings attach.
“Pay it forward” with an attitude of motivating others.
Pay attention to how you feel after the experience. What resonates in your soul after “paying it forward?”
These are only suggestions. Use what is helpful and ignore the rest.
Blessings this day!
Denise Pyles, M.Div.
