MAKING MINISTRY TO SENIORS A PRIORITY: I can honestly say that ministering to my elders has been a phenomenal blessing for me, and it has become a big priority in my life. With the first baby boomer turning sixty years of age in 2006, many churches are starting to "catch a vision" of the mature-adult harvest field! Truly, as Jesus said in John 4:34–35, the field is white already to harvest, and that field is full of senior adults. But what are some of the basics in beginning a ministry to senior adults? This is the first of a two-part series of informational programs on starting and developing a twenty-first-century ministry to mature adults.
We can literally help breathe new life into the spirit of our mature adults when we trust and expect them to do their part in the work of the kingdom, because there is still much to do, and much that mature adults can do to reach others for Christ. We may retire from our secular jobs, but we never retire from the service of the Lord.
