What are you allowing to keep you from pursuing your dreams and reaching your goals?
While I know the answers will vary, I want to share one of my recent experiences with you.
I decided to attend the American Black Film Festival in Miami, which is one of the largest film festivals in the country. This was an ideal opportunity for me to establish more industry contacts, brand myself and possibly sell my film.
There were so many hurdles I had to overcome just to get there. First, my flight was booked by a third party, so upon checking in I discovered that I was not on the flight itinerary. This meant I had to pay for my flight that day.
Some of my relatives suggested that maybe this was a sign that I shouldn’t go. I shrugged it off and kept pushing.
Upon arriving, my rental car got towed, my cameraperson didn't show up, and I had kicked out more financially then I had planned on the first day. Now I was starting question whether I should be here.
Doubt and the self-sabotage demon were speaking in both ears, but I heard a voice that spoke louder. It was saying, "Have Faith.” So I did, and the event and the trip became one of the greatest experiences of my life. I even got an opportunity to talk with John Singleton and interview Sanaa Lathan, in addition to making valuable industry contacts.
I am sharing this with you because many of us have goals and dreams that we want to pursue, and often times those dreams and goals get lost because of self-doubt, fear, self-sabotage and others telling us it can't be done. Then there are situations that arise that distract us and throw us off course.
Don't allow your dreams to be destroyed by things that happen in life. We don't have time to waste. Every minute we allow to slip away without saying a kind word, working toward our dreams and building our legacy is time wasted.
Smile, be happy and live life to the fullest. Life can change in a matter of seconds.
Will you have faith to pursue you dreams and goals, or will you talk about what you are thinking about doing for the next 20 years?
Take action. Reach for the prize.
What do you think?
