    Women in the Industry

Women in the industry: Candy Girls

Life as a woman is hard enough but what about in the male dominated entertainment world?  It seems to me that women are taken far less serious than their male counterparts.  For example, an Oscar winning actress might only earn $15m per role, whereas an Oscar winning male can receive upwards to $25m plus.  In music, female artists are often instructed to “be sexier” and play to the male ego.  In a society where success is often based on appearances, oddly the more beautiful the woman, the
less serious she is perceived.  Attractive women are frequently accused of having slept their way to the top, once success has been achieved (sadly, it’s often by fellow women).  In my opinion, this behavior does nothing more than influence a negative outlook of successful women.  Surprisingly, life as an attractive flourishing woman can often be pretty lonely.  Men can be easily intimidated by a woman when she is simply attractive, adjoin that with her earning of a larger salary and the situation could be too much for a mere man to handle.  In the world of entertainment, attractive starlets and singers are expected to show their bodies or even propositioned in far more demeaning ways to land
a role or recording contract.  However, there are women who have earned their success the traditional way, by working hard and refusing to belittle themselves.  So… My question is can a woman truly succeed “honorably” in the entertainment industry?
