    Technical Difficulties

Ooookay, so the blog feature of blogtalkradio isn't very smooth. The formatting toolbar flashes for an instant, then disappears, leaving me to do all of my coding in HTML.

Sometimes it shows your blog in, like, size 1 font, even though you typed it in 11 point.

It appears on your profile page with the HTML formatting showing. Sooo not okay.

    Grrr!

But I didn't intend to blog about that. I intended to freak out about the technical difficulties! I see why so many other show blogs apologize for technical difficulties after failed attempts to do shows.

I couldn't get through to my show by phone last week and almost lost my interview! Thank God I finally got through and was able to recover and do a great interview with TL!

Today, I tried to log on just to upload a song for tonight's show, and I got a "Server Unavailable" message. How discomforting is that? What do I do if that happens on the night of a really big interview? I'll have to do something really dramatic, like pass out.

And trying to get support is out of the question. I've asked several questions under "Help" since none of those FAQ questions really deal with technical host issues, but have yet to receive a single response.

    Again: grrr!

I love this site and its features, and the opportunities it provides, but I really hate these problems, and the fact that it seems there is no solution.

    What Do You Do?

    What do you do?

When your profile name is Minister So-and-so, your radio show has a scriptural name, your show tagline is decidedly Christian, as are your topics and guests...

...and yet you get invitations from other hosts with plenty of profanity, adult content, and stuff about psychics on their profile, blog, and segment list?

When you don't want to seem rude by not accepting their polite invitations, but what they believe and stand for is so diametrically opposed to what you believe in that you don't feel that you can, in good conscience, accept the invitation?

When your desire to perhaps reach out to them battles with your need to make sure those young in the faith are not confused by what may seem like an inappropriate alliance?

When you don't want to make too much out of what may be nothing, but you also don't want to take lightly something that could have serious ramifications.

When you have a feeling that this is a test that is preparing you for other such tests - but on a larger scale, and that how you handle this one will be pivotal in what happens next?

    What do you do?

  • Date / Time:

    Aaagh!

I'm amazed and thankful at how well this past Monday's show with TL went. It was only by God's grace that I was able to sound remotely calm or remember the questions I wanted to ask.

I called in to the host number 10 minutes ahead of time, only to get an error message saying that the number couldn't be completed as dialed.

I thought maybe I'd dialed it wrong, so I dialed again, pressing each button slowly and carefully. Same thing.

    Third time, same thing.

    Fourth time, same thing.

Now I saw that my special guest has called in and was waiting for me, but I couldn't get through. To say that I panicked is a slight understatement. I grabbed my cell phone and dialed the number. Same thing.

"Oh great. So there's something wrong with the dial-in number." I thought.

The countdown was complete! The show was on the air, but I wasn't! I called out to my husband in a frantic voice that made him come running and gave him the 5-second story, removing unnecessary pronouns to hurriedly get my point across.

He handed me his phone, I dialed the number, and whether the dial-in number decided to work, or my husband just has an awesome phone, I got through!

Breathlessly, I apologized to my guest and my listeners, trying not to let the fact that my hands were shaking and my heart was pounding register in my voice. Then I went ahead and spilled the beans about how freaked out I'd been. What would be the point of trying to play it cool? I've been transparent all my life, whether or not I wanted to. Might as well not bother stopping now.

We went on to have a really good interview. TL was very friendly and down-to-earth. She offered a lot of really insightful advice to aspiring artists, gave us a sneak peek at her fabulous voice and future plans, and said she'd love to come back on the show next year when her new projects drops.

So things started out crazy, but worked out in the end. I even got reviews saying that my husband's cell phone made me sound clearer than I ever sounded before! See how God just works things out for our good?
