    After The Saturday Show

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry. The structure is sets of syllables, the count is 5/7/5, and has a reference to nature or the seasons, a pause or break, and who’s goal is to make every day events seem special has been around for thousands of years.

Today’s show takes a look at haiku and a new version of this style of poetry called twiaku. Twitter.com is a social media site that allows only 140 characters for each entry. This site is now boasting haiku poets. I give you a look at this phenomenon.

Facebook has a group called The “Twitter Haiku Movement” and I have selected a book of haiku for you on the profile page.

We also look at more traditional haiku poetry and its beauty. The Haiku Society has wonderful website http://hsa-haiku.org/ with lots of poetry and information on haiku in the United States.

Let’s talk next week. Remember we have a “reminder button” on the profile page that lets us remind you that the show is about to start. By clicking on the “reminder button” you will receive an email letting you know when Speak Freely airs.
