Cocktails for Two
Saturday 05/17/08
4:00pm
Cocktails came into their hay day in the United States during the 20s and 30s when first alcohol was prohibited and then when alcohol was scarce.
The American entrepreneurs or bootleggers began adding juices and bitters to the alcohol they were serving illegally. The precious alcohol was mixed with medicinal tonics for example, to add a kick to the drink.
One of the most famous tonics is called Angostura Aromatic Bitters. This tonic was developed by a German doctor, there always seems to be a German doctor involved in these kinds of things. He was in Venezuela and board. So he concocted a tonic for anything and everything that allies you. You will most likely find a bottle behind your friendly neighborhood bar.
But enough cocktail history lets think cool summer drink. I found an excellent recipe for a summer day called Sweet Summer Days, how convenient.
1 ½ oz vodka
¾ oz Bacardi Apple Rum
¼ lemon juice fresh, please
Garnish with a green apple of lemon wedge
That does sound yummy.
Normally I’m a purest but once in awhile a flavored run is allowed.
In honor of Abby the cat I offer a cocktail called Hello Kitty:
2 parts TYKU
1 part vodka
1 fresh lemon
TYKU Sake & Asian vodka based liqueur made from 20 natural fruits & botanicals
Cheers
Tyku
