Source Nation!  Join us for Sports Tuesday with Host Steve Manderson as he welcomes Author Marty Appel into the studio to discuss his book "PINSTRIPE EMPIRE".

Marty Appel, considered by many to be the New York Yankees' leading historian, has had a 48-year career in and around sports and sports communications.

His career began in 1968 when the Yankees hired him to answer Mickey Mantle's fan mail.  At 24 he became the team's public relations director - the youngest in Major League history, and his time there included the purchase of the team by the Steinbrenner family, the opening of a remodeled Yankee Stadium, and a return of the team to the World Series.

He has since directed PR for WPIX TV (where he was also the Yankees' executive producer), for the Atlanta Olympic Games, for The Topps Company, and for his own company, Marty Appel Public Relations.  He is the author of 24 books included the New York Times best-sellers "Munson" and "Pinstripe Empire" which is considered the definitive Yankee history.  Next spring, his biography of Casey Stengel, best known as the winner of 10 pennants while managing the Yankees and as the first manager of the New York Mets, will be published by Doubleday.

He continues to contribute to Yankees publications, YES Network "Yankeeographies" and the Yankees.com website.
