    Cheney's Own Special Headline

Quick Headline that I hope blows up in a much more violent fashion:

-Senator: Cheney and Alleged Secret CIA Program 'A Problem'

--- So the cat's FINALLY out of the bag; I won't go so far as to hope that the thousands of Black Budget projects that currently slip by Congress to the tune of $40 - 80 BILLION per year will be exposed, but perhaps this will put the former VP in his place, namely, somewhere other than here.

However, I'd like to make it known that I heartily disagree with Sen. Feinstein's (D - Cali) assertion that this is "a problem" (God this woman has a sick talent for understatement). Senator, having to change planes at Hartsfield is a problem. Getting carjacked is a problem. Running into the girl you've been seeing for a few weeks at your family reunion is a problem. This, on the other hand, is downright scary, and people should be reacting to their government's misuse of their trust and resources.

Unfortunately, the CIA is compartmentalized, well-funded, and doesn't have the word "intelligence" in its name for no reason; more than a few politicians have abandoned queries into the agency at the request of colleagues who feel the effort is wasted. I understand "forget finding the smoking gun" is something of a common phrase on Capitol Hill when dealing with the CIA. Moreover, the American people are perfectly content with secrets, from the Secret Service (are you kidding me; remember Hitler's SS men?) to Black Budget projects to the acceptance of misinformation and false intel on the premise that the CIA simply knows more than we could ever hope to.

And that last premise is pretty much correct, as far as the public is concerned; I read a study recently that found over 60% of Americans believe in United States government cover-ups and conspiracies to implement a New World Order. Not that many of these people would be able to prove it or at least convincingly argue their point, but that's not what disturbs me; my issue here is that these views are so widespread and yet the majority of those who hold them have to be either apathetic or stupid, since only a population fully comprised of either would accept this kind of oppression (perceived or real, mind you), and THAT, Senator Feinstein, is a problem.
