At 3pm EST, author James Tabor will talk to us about his award-winning book, 'Forever on the Mountain.' In summer of 1967, an expedition of twelve young men climbed toward the summit of Mt. McKinley. Only five returned. Seven men perished under mysterious circumstances. The tragedy was history’s third-worst mountaineering disaster when it occurred. Yet, for reasons that have been unclear, there was no proper official investigation of the catastrophe. 'Forever on the Mountain' begins as a classic tale of men against nature gambling, and losing, on one of the world’s most coveted—and deadliest—peaks. But the story takes an unexpected twist, turning from one of disaster to one of discovery. James has pieced together, for the first time, the complete story of one of the most tragic, mysterious, and controversial disasters in the history of mountaineering.
