an Oakland Based writer and co-creator of Pushing Margins, a summer art and writing camp taking place in July (8th-12th) for LGBGTQQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and allied) high school youth. The camp will be hosted by Mills College through their Community Outreach Education Center on the Mills College Campus.

For one week during the summer, LGBTQQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Allies) high school age youth from across the Bay Area will come together to paint, draw, write, and otherwise create a new youth art culture. Under the direction of experienced local artists and writers, students will make art that explores their complex and individual identities, investigating how their sense of self is informed by their experiences of race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, class, religion, and nationality.  One major problem in schools and classrooms is the presence bullying as it relates to racism, classism, sexism, and homophobia. We will address this problem of bullying by establishing an environment where students have the time and material to artistically investigate their identities and potentially interrogate and dismantle oppressive power dynamics within our cultures.
