Here at Soul City it is our goal to be the voice of the Indie artist. Whether you are a Hip Hop, Soul, Neo - Soul, R&B or Jazz, if you are amongst the masses that create music because you have love for it, you have a station willing, ready and able to let your sound be heard. This is where up and coming artists can get their sound out to the masses. We are rededicating ourselves to you. From this moment on, we will no longer play mainstream music, unless you make it mainstream! We are 100% invested in the indie artists of all kinds, from visual to musical. Every month we feature some of the best independent artists around. As of November 1st, Soul City Radio will be broadcasting solely on Sunday. All of the shows will be consolidated into that day, in hopes that you don't turn the dial. We continually strive to bring you a quality alternative to mainstream media.     Soul City Open Mic features Petula Caesar

    Petula Caesar, “Tula” to her friends and fans (in addition to being an author, an editor, and a journalist) is a performance poet and a recording artist. Her live shows are spoken word poetry at its sexiest, most playful, and most thought provoking. Her musical partnership with producer Mo-Rece of Stinkiface Music has created a unique spoken vocal style and a high powered sound to their house music tracks. Though she worked in public relations for over 10 years, an essay she wrote on a whim was published in Baltimore’s daily paper The Sun, moving her into writing full steam ahead. It became a full time career when Tula became a regular contributing writer for Baltimore’s City Paper and for The Afro American Newspaper. Tula published her first erotica collection, Lipstick And Other Stories in 2005, and went on to become a contributing writer to Zane’s erotica anthology Caramel Flava. She also became Managing Editor of Mic Life Magazine, a Baltimore-based bi-monthly publication that covers the underground arts and entertainment scene in the DMV, and has interviewed neosoul artists like Kindred the Family Soul, Raheem DeVaughn, Dwele and Anthony David.

    Catalina Byrd was born in Baltimore, MD in 1981, from that day her life has criss-crossed her in 28 years through the American experience on multiple levels enabling her to have at such a young age one of the most distinctive perceptions of America that you can't help but to be captivated by her. Catalina began writing poetry and short stories at the age of 3 - a technique used by her mother to teach her to read, extend her vocabulary, and practice various forms of structured composition. Since then Catalina has always written poetry, very rarely performing and refusing to consider herself a spoken word artist - Catalina would prefer to be considered an author and her work be considered contributions to the art of literature and not that of performance. Raised in an extremely politically active family Catalina was instilled with a very strong belief in civil service, activism, and voting by Republicans. As a registered Independent Catalina has worked in the State of Maryland for both Republican and Democratic candidates, passionate about what she believes in and unwilling to affiliate herself with either party as a matter of principle.
