MYA of MYALEKA CULTURE is a jewelry designer, visual artist and teacher. She was born in London to Burmese parents who came from Burma in the 1960’s. Her family then migrated to the United States where she now resides. Her parents were both wonderfully proud of being Burmese and made sure to share their love of their cultural heritage with her as a child.
Mya is currently working on a series of Burmese children’s folk stories that have been passed down from the matriarchs of her family.
As with so many immigrants, her parents were searching for that place to call home where they could settle financially and emotionally, although Mya’s experience as a youth living in many different places has been difficult at times, she realizes now that all of these past experiences have made her the person she is today – an insatiably curious learner dedicated to helping others and who actively searches for new horizons in everyday experiences.
