It's hot sapes...damn hot...and it's a Full Moon Fever week. So I figure let's vent and take on the litany of silly, petty, lame-ass culture wars that are standing on my last nerve. In the last week or so we've had all the buttons pushed; BP and the terrorist scam, BP and the cleanup BS, the unemployment benefits hassle, the NAACP scandal, Lindsay Lohan's jailhouse rock, the new Black Panther party's on, immigration law heats up, geez...did I miss any? Anyway, we'll sift through the rubble and I'll also toss out my somatic cinema review of "Inception" a movie that is straining the brains of the country but somehow still making money. All that and maybe some MLB trade deadline moves as the Mets melt in the desert. I'm the absolute LAST dude on Earth to play a video game that is more complicated that Nintendo RBI 2. I lost the 'gamer' gene in the early 90's somewhere. So I missed out on all the controversy over 'Mortal Kombat', and all it's violent decedents from 'Half-Life' to 'Grand Theft Auto' to 'Call of Duty'. I also missed the music rages of 'Guitar Hero' and "Dance, Dance Revolution'... and forget all the Madden NFL games that sparked a whole new line of gamer furniture. I skipped it. But I did play some dice baseball as a kid. It's much more popular older cousin - "Strato-Matic Baseball" has gone from board game to big business with the advent of fantasy baseball. During the long holiday weekend I tried to catch up how this "Summer of Recovery" applied to the economy. With the so-so jobs report last FRI, the turbulence at the G20 Summit in Toronto before that, and of course, the ongoing BP fiasco, what are a huge percentage of Americans (including yours truly) focused on? Where is LeBron James going of course! And after 5 days of this, it was tweeted that he'll announce it on a prime time special on ESPN THURS night. Only in America, right?
