The drama of aging parents is filled with subplots that can undo our best efforts to keep everything together. One of the most unnerving challenges is trying to manage and coordinate personal, financial, legal, and health insurance affairs. In an ocean of uneven transactions, things are easily lost, misplaced, or simply forgotten. What can make this better? My guest, Gideon Schein, has spent the last ten years partnering with seniors and their boomer children to provide “in-home” administration services. He is a founding partner of Eddy & Schein In-Home Administrators for Seniors. Gideon will discuss the scope and depth of in-home administration services and why they are becoming more important in a time-strapped, too much to do aging society. Our discussion will look at the basics of this subplot. What are the biggest in-home administration issues families face at the start of the process? What are some of the biggest long term issues that have to be managed? What is the first thing that needs to get done? What are the key legal documents required for daily living and being prepared? How do manage the deluge of investment papers and bank statements? How do you insure bills are paid on time? Is there any hope for gaining the upper hand on medical bills and insurance papers? What about taxes if you pay or choose not to pay them? This is a foundational show that offers listeners new strategies, suggestions, and ideas to better understand and manage these necessary yet unnerving obligations
