It’s the first of our monthly off-season PawedCast episodes and Dave Rohe joins me to talk soccer on the show for the first time. Dave and I break down the USMNT’s firing of Jurgen Klinsmann and hiring of Bruce Arena in the midst of World Cup qualifying.
We also discuss Jason Kreis’ trip to visit Atlético Paranaense in Brazil and what he might have learned from City’s Brazilian partner club while in Curitiba. There’s a lot of good that can come from these types of partnerships and it will bear watching to see how they benefit Orlando City.
The Orlando Pride have already made an off-season splash, picking up USWNT defender Ali Krieger for surprisingly little in return. We talk about Tom Sermanni’s new acquisition and how it might affect the Pride in 2017. Orlando City B has made a ton of roster moves and we discuss those as well.
And finally, we give our picks for which surprise players Orlando City might protect and leave unprotected for the upcoming MLS Expansion Draft.
Here’s how the show unfolded:
0:12- Klinsmann is out and Arena is in. Is this a good move? What does it all mean, moving further into World Cup qualifying?
20:07- Jason Kreis visited our new Brazilian partners. What was he up to and how can it help Orlando City?
28:14- The Pride grabbed Ali Krieger from the Washington Spirit. Great move, but what does it mean for the defense and for Josee Belanger?
33:27- Orlando City B cut practically everyone. What’s up with that?
44:35- Surprise picks for who might be protected/unprotected in the Expansion Draft.
Grey and Josh discuss Manchester City's 2-1 win over Burnley and dissect the performance. They also discuss the team's recent habit of starting slowly and how Yaya Toure figures into things. Lastly, they preview the weekend's big game against Chelsea.
American Cityzens is a Manchester City podcast by two American sports journalists -- Grey Papke and Josh Webb. Though purely dedicated to Manchester City, Grey and Josh wanted to provide a voice to the established and growing fan-base of Manchester City here in the United States. American Cityzens is a place for intelligent discussion and passionate fanfare. Man City may be located in Manchester, but they belong to the world now, we're just telling the American side of the story.
With Bolton Wanderers now actually being good and not in terrifying peril, it turns out that there isn't actually an awful lot to talk about on a Bolton Wanderers podcast, so that's why these little beauties have been so few and far between this year. Or at least that's our excuse.
But absence makes the heart grown fonder ladies and gentlemen and I have no doubt that you're going to love episode 67 of the Lion of Vienna Suite Podcast.
On this week's (month's) show, regulars Dan and Chris are joined by debutant Jimmy Donnelly, of Trotters Blog, and very special guest Marc Iles, of the Bolton News, who stepped in at the last minute to offer some expert opinion.
The quartet discussed Saturday's comfortable 2-0 victory over Millwall in great detail, discussing the players who played well, which was all of them and the players who didn't, which was none of them.
A quick look forwarded to the following two games this week, against Coventry City and Northampton Town, and then a discussion on the upcoming QnA with the Whites chairman saw out the show.

Colchonero Chat ate more than enough ham after Wednesday's Copa del Rey win in Salamanca and now want to discuss the expolits of Atletico Madrid from the comforts of home.
Robert Walker (@trauppin) is a staff writer at Into the Calderon and Carlo Valladares (@C_V_News) is a writer and analyst for Atletico Fans, The Stoppage Time and World Football Index, as well as a member of the Sound of La Liga podcast. They are the guests on this edition of the program, discussing Atletico's 6-0 mauling of Guijuelo on Wednesday which saw many B team and fringe players get a chance. Of particular note were the performances of Nico Gaitan, Saul Niguez and Thomas Partey, plus a goal from canterano Roberto Nunez.
At the weekend, Atleti return to league play by hosting a pretty decent Espanyol side with several colchonero links. This game could be a significant barometer of how the team intends to play the rest of the season, and the podders debate the pros and cons of returning to Cholismo vs. pushing on with the more expansive style. Plus news and banter.
We are now on iTunes and Stitcher! Feel free to subscribe and listen to all new and archived episodes of Colchonero Chat, and do leave a rating and a review if you are so inclined.
Four wins, four clean sheets, a top three spot and all that despite a growing injury list for Reading FC. Wimb & Jonny reflect on another impressive performance for Jaap Stam’s side that including a scoring debut for Dominic Samuel and a number of stand-out performances from younger players.
We also analyse that growing injury list, while the mailbag provides us with questions on who is irreplaceable, one player who we’d want back that’s left since 2013 and much more.
We’ve also launched a NEW page for those of you who want to go the extra mile and donate to the show. Rewards include shout outs, pubchat topics and even a swanky Tilehurst End Mug. You can visit http://www.patreon.com/thetilehurstend
Steve Brisendine (MLSSoccer.com beat writer, poet and foodie) joins Thad to discuss the magnificent run of Swope Park Rangers, the not so magnificient form of Sporting Kansas City, the great Besler mystery and former Kansas City Wizard Preki's new job and maybe a little more....
Ja: Feyenoord tegen Heereveen. Feyenoord begint minder te worden, wellicht. Ja, nou, luister maar gewoon naar de wedstrijd.
