Why do you do deadlifts as a back exercise? The only muscles that contract dynamically during the deadlift are the quads, the hamstrings and the glutes; the back muscles only contract statically. So if you do them for the static contraction of the back muscles then why not do exercises that cause the back to contract statically at different angles without involving the legs, so that your legs can rest since you do not train them on the same day as back. Doing deadlifts for back you are training

Paul Delia says that overload is the key to muscle growth and hence he developed the maximum overload training system (Max-OT). But then why does he suggest using the 4 to 6 rep range? The overload would be greater with 1 rep, or just 1 partial rep, or 1 negative rep, or 1 partial negative rep, or a static contraction of a very short duration.
