Tonight on Sisters: Real Talk! Tune in as we get up close and personal with LaKesha Jackson, 33 years young and a breast cancer survivor and founder of Pink SHOES, Inc.
In a recent article, Newsday described Ms. Jackson as "a living testament to the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” In her case, pink lemonade would be more accurate."
Diagnosed at age 31, LaKesha was thrust into the range of symptoms and emotions that accompany breast cancer. Instead of giving in to the disease, she beat it and used her experience to give back to those in similar shoes...Pink S.H.O.E.S to be exact.
LaKesha and friend Ganesa Taylor started a non-profit organization called Pink S.H.O.E.S. Inc., whose moniker stands for Strength, Hope, Optimism, Endurance, Survival.
The mission of Pink S.H.O.E.S. is to spread awareness that women 40 and under do get breast cancer, and to educate young women about early detection. In addition to monthly support meetings, the group raises money to buy pink roses and custom wigs for patients.
