After struggling with different types of abuse as a child, she knew that, she wanted to make a difference in the lives of teenagers that are experiencing some form of abuse and have no one to turn to. She knows she can’t save everyone, but can make a difference in the life of one person. Racquel’s life hasn’t always been easy and is no stranger to drama. She recently came home from serving a 37 month sentence in Federal Prison for selling crack cocaine.  Being new to the system and under pressure with no one to turn to; she decided to start writing. That was a form of escaping the pain of being away from her family. Her novel “Bottom Bitch” was created and she spent the next three years perfecting her craft and writing a drama filled novel with twisted scenes and its own unique path.    Racquel relocated to Atlanta, GA with her family. She is currently working on memoir of her struggles and tribulations throughout her life.  She’s also the CEO of Black Destiny Publications with several authors signed to her company. 01:05:00Sistahs On LitnoRacquel Williams,Bottom Bitch series,Black Destiny Publications, book,Sistahs on LitRacquel Williams was born in Kingston, Jamaica and later relocated to Mount Vernon, New York.  She studied Psychology at the University of Phoenix and had cSistahs on Lit chats with Author Adrianne Cunninghamhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/sistahs-on-lit/2014/10/21/sistahs-on-lit-chats-with-author-adrianne-cunninghamBookshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/sistahs-on-lit/2014/10/21/sistahs-on-lit-chats-with-author-adrianne-cunningham/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/sistahs-on-lit/2014/10/21/sistahs-on-lit-chats-with-author-adrianne-cunninghamTue, 21 Oct 2014 22:30:00 GMTSistahs on Lit chats with Author Adrianne CunninghamAdrianne L. As a child she would spend hours writing stories. When her friends were outside, playing, she was in the house writing. Being that she was an only child she had a lot of time on her hands. Naturally, when people asked what she wanted to be when she grew up she would say “an author.” She is a leader. In 2006, Newark Public Schools opened the doors to American History High School, where she was a part of its first class. Being a part of the trial run at the school a loud her to help build the school’s motto and have a voice in what the school’s expectations were. As a freshman, Yara was voted class president. From then on, she worked as a spokeswoman for the student body. As her thirst for knowledge grew, she graduated from American History High School and enrolled in New Jersey City University. Studying to become an English Teacher seemed to be the right fit for her. She loves to read and write. Most of all, Yara is passionate about education, as she believes that academic excellence is the key to the future. Recently, however, she changed her course of study to Sociology and plans to become a youth counselor. In 2013, Yara published her first novella, Too Much to Chew. It was the greatest accomplishment. Soon after came three more outstanding urban fiction novels. Then, she started S.W.A.G Productions. Wanted to establish something creative, they decided that the acronym stands for Strong Women Achieving Greatness. SWAG Productions is a platform for self-published authors. The company offers services such as editing, proofreading, and typing. I have been blessed with the opportunity to win win win for a greater cause.  Failure is not an option! Not only did I enlightened myself behind the walls in ways that I wouldn’t have been able to had I not went to prison but now I’m going corporate….. Even though I’m the author of six novels, I recently worked as the data manager for an HIV program in New York. Similarly, I spent a few years working as a web design consultant in the Caribbean, so you can probably get a sense of my work by looking at this site. In the fall of 2013 I'll start my PhD in the sociology of development—essentially, the study of how poor countries can advance socio-economically. Given my interest in (global) poverty and inequality, my novels tend to have a “social commentary” aspect. Writing, for me, has always been a way to make sense of the world. A good book is like a good conversation, in that it opens us up new possibilities and challenges our lazy assumptions about life. This is my goal as an author. 00:27:00Sistahs On LitnoDavid Bernard,The Thirsty Earth,Books,Romance,Sistahs on LitThe Thirsty Earth, is scheduled to come out in August of 2013.
