Revictimization-Retraumatization of Disaster Victims by Service Providers Pt 2

On Sunday Jan. 12th 2014 Mr. Brett A. Scudder did a special presentation on “Human Disasters, The Unheard Stories” of people who have been affected by life challenges (man-made and natural) and how their lives were impacted on many levels. In times of disaster we see devastation, destruction and mayhem on the physical infrastructure levels far more than the impacts on people unless there's bloodshed, death and visible suffering. Unfortunately, the human suffering and emotional damages felt will not always be visible immediately and over time can and will develop into a societal disaster on many levels including suicide, crime, violence, unrest and incarceration.

Mr. Scudder sees these issues every day in the homes, businesses and communities as he provides human (physical, mental, emotional, resources) services to address human disasters and human suffering. He will be presenting on these issues and how emergency and disaster response and recovery must address the human challenges from day one to alleviate and mitigate human suffering and human disasters across the board. His goal is to continue highlighting the need for parallel support services, resources and response to human needs while looking at infrastructure, financial and geographic impacts.

His presentation was a segue into this 5 part series by SISFI, the NY Human Suffering and Wellness Coalition “NYHSWC” and the National Non-Profits and Advocates Legislative Association Caucus “NNPALAC” The series will be hosted on different time schedules to accommodate our guest featuring panel discussions with various agencies, orgs, clergy and advocates on the help services model deployed and used in times of disaster and their impacts on people being served or seeking help.
