Hi everyone. As you are all aware by now, Peninsula Hospital is closing and the process has begun. The Governor has given his orders for it to be closed and the staff has begun receiving notices of layoffs and such. This is insane as is and I can’t stress enough how bad this is. Let us come together and stand up for what is our civil rights as a people to a healthcare system in a community of over 100,000 people (yes, many didn’t know that we have that many people here in the Rockaways). 1199 has called on the NAACP, elected official, community leaders and community advocates/activists to join in a candlelight vigil to try and save the Hospital on Wednesday Aug. 3rd from 5pm-8pm at the Dunkin Donuts parking lot on Beach 51st St. beside the hospital. Dr. Edward Williams, president and Mr. Brett A. Scudder, Civic & Community Engagement Chair, of the Far Rockaway branch of the NAACP are asking every resident to please, please, please, spread the word and come out and join the fight against this act of wickedness. We MUST come out in numbers, strength and support against the Governor's decision to close a hospital that provides trauma and medical emergency care and treatment for the people The Rockaways. We are mobilizing the community & elected officials to engage in this effort. We need to get the word out to everyone ok. So let us stand up, speak up, represent and support our community. You may be the one in need of medical care in an emergency. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you there. We will update this page with updates and details as we get them. The Far Rockaway NAACP Branch. For more details you can contact: Dr. Williams (347) 387-6916 Mr. Brett A. Scudder (718) 770-7970
