    Michelle Sewell founder/editor "Girlchild Press"

    Photobucket
Michelle Sewell is an award-winning screenwriter, poet, and founder of GirlChild Press. Throughout her work as a poet and a social worker, she has maintained that there must be a place for women and girls to develop and express their truest selves. With that in mind she has created open mics, workshops, and writing circles to foster that "sacred space" environment for women. The Jamaican-born artist/activist work has appeared on NPR, in Sinister Wisdom, Other Countries: Voices Rising, Campaign to End AIDS Anthology, Port of Harlem Magazine, and seeingblack.com.

    Damnyo da "Genius Chyld"'

    Photobucket

To understand the multiple levels of Damnyo da "Genius Chyld"'s poetry, one needn't look any further than her name. What at first blush appears both conceited and colloquial is, in fact, a reference to powerful feudal Japanese rulers ('daimyo') and a nod to famous poet Oscar Wilde who said "I have nothing to declare except my genius". Like her moniker, Damnyo as well as her poetry is historical, multi-faceted and cultural. Damnyo is an LA native who discovered the empowering effect of words during her teenage years and diligently worked to develop herself as an artist. While many of her peers enjoyed their first years in nightclubs, Damnyo spent her nights at local poetry venues, quickly becoming a well known part of the Los Angeles poetry scene. As the youngest member of the poetry scene, she was mentored by such noteworthy poets as Taalam Acey and since 2005 she has been a Serafemme artist, student, and advocate of poetry and her community. She has hosted several Los Angeles open mic venues and has produced numerous shows including Elements. She was also the slammaster/coach for the LA Slam Team in 2006 and wrote a book of poetry entitled "Trap'd". "Damnyo delivers her writings with a rhythm that's mixed with irony, humor and a trace of anger." -c.b. flynn, moorpark college, student voice Damnyo has performed at USC, UCLA, Serafemme, Outfest, Sistahfest, Fusion, San Luis Osibpo, CSU-Los Angeles, San Diego State, The Malcolm X Festival, African Marketplace, Berkeley Slam, KPFK, Homo Hop, LA Pride, and Long Beach Pride.

    Tim'm T West

    Photobucket
Black, gay, feminist, POZ, and working class, Tim'm T. West has embraced all of who he is and, with laser-beam precision, harnessed the power of his truth to illuminate, celebrate, inspire, provoke, and bear witness. As a teacher, performance artist, author, and culture producer, Tim'm has become an exemplar among contemporary Renaissance personalities of the early 21st Century as he brings others to voice through education for critical consciousness. Indeed, that Tim'm has been interviewed by such dizzying array of media outlets from Newsweek to the New York Times is a testament to his importance to the spirit and history of the times as a foundational maverick among black, multi-disciplinary artists. Join in as I find out what new pathways he is forging.

    Fiona Zedde

Fiona Zedde moved to the United States from Jamaica as a sweet, yet misunderstood, preteen. After spending a few years in Tampa and getting her undergraduate degree in Gender Studies and British and American Literature at New College of Florida, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she currently lives. At the moment, she is to quote a pithy bumper sticker "the artist currently known as starving" but she someday hopes to eat regular meals at the Ritz. Her fiction has been published in Necrologue: DIVA Book of the Dead and the Undead (DIVA), Wicked: Sexy Tales of Legendary Lovers (Cleis), Best Lesbian Erotica 2004 & 2007 (Cleis), Va-Va-Voom: Hot Lesbian Erotica (DIVA), Best Lesbian Romance (Cleis), and Hot Lesbian Erotica (Cleis). Her novels, Bliss and A Taste of Sin, Every Dark Desire, and Hungry for It are out now and available in bookstores worldwide. The novellas, “Pure Pleasure,” “Going Wild” and the soon-to-be-published “Sweat” appear in the collections, Satisfy Me, Satisfy Me Again, and Satisfy Me Tonight, respectively.
