Born & raised in Memphis, TN, Cathy Anderson-Kent is a candidates running for Shelby County General Sessions Court Judge, Division 10, the current Domestic Violence Court. Cathy has ONE GOAL, ONE PASSION: JUSTICE!" With 21 years of experience in the practice of criminal law and 19 years as an attorney at the Shelby County Public Defenders Office where she has maintained a strong track record of ensuring justice for her indigent clients. Cathy writes training materials as well as trains and mentors younger attorneys. She's formerly chaired the Domestic Violence Council’s Oversight Committee which certifies and monitors batterer intervention programs in Shelby County.
She assists in finding employment for her clients using the Public Defender's job list and has found for them housing, healthcare and childcare by reaching out to various social service organizations in the greater mid-south area. Cathy Anderson-Kent is a committed public servant. She volunteers at the Memphis Area Legal Service’s at the Ben Hooks Public Library where she assist members of the public with legal matters. Cathy renders advice on restoring voter and other citizenship rights of convicted felons who have rehabilitated their lives. Further she apprises the public to Tennessee’s Expungement Act of 2012 which allows those who've infracted the law only once to have their criminal records erased. Cathy has formerly lectured on the legal significance of maintaining a valid driver’s license in the Memphis City Schools’ Driver’s Education Program. Cathy also serves on the Board of Directors for the Krayola Learning Academy, has tutored for the GED program at the Shelby County Correction Center and is the founder of the Solid Justice Legal Ministry.
