Interview With Tom Napier, Director of Markland Homes Association

Sharifah Hardie interviews Tom Napier, Director and former VP of the Markland Wood, Markland Homes Association (MHA). The MHA is a community volunteer organization that was organized in 1962 to "Create, Foster and Maintain a Community Spirit." Markland Wood holds many events throughout the year. The flagship event is held annually, in December close to Christmas. The Annual Christmas Caravan & Food Drive consistently collects over 17,000 pounds of non-perishable food items, clothing and money for different charities. In keeping with our "Fostering Community Spirit" mandate, we sponsor a community social, family fun day, community garage sale, board and public meetings. Other events such as election/candidates debates are organized when the needs occur. Other items of interest from the MHA are committees that meet regularly to help the community maintain safety, communicate with the police and politicians. We meet with other organizations, donate money to Markland student residents and even issue two community awards of $1,000 to graduating high school students to help with their post secondary education. Markland Wood is often called and is truly a "Circle of Friends," which is now the slogan on our community signs.
