Please make your favorite cocktail at home and tune-in live as our company of players reads William Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew here on our podcast!  Those of you who purchased tickets via Eventbrite will get a personalized video thank you message from a member of our company. The video will be emailed to you via a private YouTube link, just for you! But ALL are invited to listen in!  The event will include a pre-show introduction by our artistic director and will take place in our regular format with a narrator and our cast of players who will all introduce themselves when we go live. We'll then kick off the abbreviated reading of the comedy.  The arts are vulnerable during these times of uncertainty and we want to continue to make our work available, and connect with you while we wait to for the time to see you all, our amazing audience, again—in-person with drinks, of course!  In the meantime, we hope you will tune-in to this podcast during the originally slated time when we would have been together on Sunday, April 5, 2020. The reading will begin at 1 p.m. EST and run about 50-minutes with NO INTERMISSION.  This is a difficult time for arts organizations across the globe. And we ask that you consider a donation to Shakespeare in Detroit at this time to support our artists while we wait for word to return to our regularly scheduled programming.  DONATE here: https://www.shakespeareindetroit.com/support-us Thank you for being here and tuning in! 00:54:00Detroit meets The Bardnoshakespeare in detroit, live reading, taming of the shrew, william shakespeare, abbreviated readingThe show must go on -- online that is!91bf5d88-d935-4993-98b4-99550820a7a271fullCreating Theatre in Detroit, SiD's 2018 Reviewhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/shakespeareindetroit/2018/12/31/creating-theatre-in-detroit-sids-2018-reviewEntertainmenthttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/shakespeareindetroit/2018/12/31/creating-theatre-in-detroit-sids-2018-review/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/shakespeareindetroit/2018/12/31/creating-theatre-in-detroit-sids-2018-reviewMon, 31 Dec 2018 19:30:00 GMTCreating Theatre in Detroit, SiD's 2018 ReviewWe learned a lot in 2018 - lessons that will surely improve the way we work in 2019 and 2020. One of the most difficult lessons may be filtering the noise from the positivity and light. How can you differentiate the opinions that are shared as constructive criticism from those that may be there to throw you off course? How do you discern intentions? How do you find those who understand and share your vision so that  you can continue to build? How do you tune out the noise so that you can fully hear what your gut is telling you? I don't talk much about it, so I thought I would share a little bit about what has been an incredible experience.  My students are amazing! We just finished our latest semester last weekend. This semester was different than previous semesters as my life has become more intentional in the past 18 months. I know my purpose. I always knew I wanted to share my art, but I didn't know exactly what that art looked like. I have been a writer. I have been an actor. I have been a comedian. Finding Shakespeare in Detroit has changed every aspect of my life. And, so, this semester it was very important for me to know and feel that I was making a real impact as a teacher. Sometimes, evidence of your success doesn't come in the form of some loud, elaborate declaration. There are times, when figuring out if you are doing the right thing or not can be as quiet and subtle as a fist bump.  I hope you'll check out the latest episode of Detroit Meets the Bard! 00:07:00Detroit meets The BardnoSam White,Detroit, teacher, art,ShakespeareI have spent the past two years -- off and on -- teaching Shakespeare to adjudicated youth here in the city of Detroit. So, where do you find that balance -- how do you live a purposeful but plentiful life?  I most certainly don't have all the answers, but I want to share what I've learned so far.  PLUS, let's talk about creating awareness for your brand. I get a lot of questions on how to share your art after you have created it. I hope to touch on a little about that as well on this episode of Detroit Meets the Bard. 00:10:00Detroit meets The BardnoShakespeare in Detroit, theatre, theater, business, entrepreneurshipWhether you are an actor or a director, a producer or an art proprietor and creator of any sort, there is an business to what you do.  Sure, we as artists loveShakespeare in Detroit presents "King Lear" at Marygrove Collegehttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/shakespeareindetroit/2014/11/30/shakespeare-in-detroit-presents-king-lear-at-marygrove-collegeEntertainmenthttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/shakespeareindetroit/2014/11/30/shakespeare-in-detroit-presents-king-lear-at-marygrove-college/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/shakespeareindetroit/2014/11/30/shakespeare-in-detroit-presents-king-lear-at-marygrove-collegeSun, 30 Nov 2014 21:00:00 GMTShakespeare in Detroit presents "King Lear" at Marygrove CollegeTune into this episode of Detroit Meets the Bard to learn more abour our first production of 2015, "King Lear." And she was talking about the importance of aligning your purpose with your personality. It thought that was really powerful as it took me years in corporate America to figure out how important personality is to your work and your purpose.  I wanted to make this episode a bit personal and chat about the entrepreneurial side of Shakespeare in Detroit. Let's face it, there is a personal side to entrepreneurship because -- in most cases -- the business is your dream.  You have to set boundaries, build and develop relationships and earn trust and figure out who you can give your trust to as you execute your mission.  So how do you figure out how to align your personality with your dreams and work, and get others onboard to support that dream so that you can impact your community and the world? I'm still figuring it out, but let's talk about it. These will allow your consumers or clients to relate to your product. In our case, it is a story or theatrical experience. We want our audiences to be able to parallel their own lives by not just viewing but experiencing our performances. And a great gateway for that is having actors and artists a part of our team that well represent our wide-ranging community from those of us who live in the city to those of us on the outskirts of Detroit whether we are black, white, young, old, educated, wealthy, struggling to make rent...We  can all relate to the human experience and should be able to enjoy accessible art that represents our lives and the lives of others in our community.  Thanks for tuning in.  00:10:00Detroit meets The Bardnodiversity, entrepreneurship, workplace, management consulting, theaterDuring this evening's episode, I will discuss the importance of diversity in business and how it adds to the overall success of any entity from creative to otheA chat with "A Midsummer Night's Dream" director Cal Schwartzhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/shakespeareindetroit/2014/05/18/a-chat-with-a-midsummer-nights-dream-director-cal-schwartzEntertainmenthttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/shakespeareindetroit/2014/05/18/a-chat-with-a-midsummer-nights-dream-director-cal-schwartz/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/shakespeareindetroit/2014/05/18/a-chat-with-a-midsummer-nights-dream-director-cal-schwartzSun, 18 May 2014 22:00:00 GMTA chat with "A Midsummer Night's Dream" director Cal SchwartzShakespeare in Detroit's founding artistic director, Sam White, will sit down with the company's costume extraordinaire, Cal Schwartz, this evening. I am so sorry to have been away for so long. We haven't recorded a podcast in a while as our complete focus during the first quarter of the year was "Antony and Cleopatra." And I am so happy to share that it was a complete success! We sold out every show, except one -- our matinee. Even though our Sunday afternoon show was small, they were a wonderful group of soldiers. In fact, everyone that came to see this show were soldiers as we dealt with freezing temperatures at our venue. However, despite the inclement weather, it was a glorious production and we thank everyone who was a part of this show -- from the audience to our actors and crew! I think we made history as the first Shakespeare performance in a recycling center, EVER! Special shoutout to our wonderful friends at Recycle Here for allowing us to use your epic space.  For those of you who listen to this podcast, you will have this bit of juice before anyone else does: The details of our next performance -- the who, what, when, where and how. We officially announce it on Wednesday, March 14, 2014.  It's going to be an exciting summer for us. We hope those of you who have already joined the movement will continue this journey with us. And for those of you who haven't seen a show yet, we hope to see you in July! ~ Sam White  00:14:00Detroit meets The BardnoShakespeare in Detrot,Detroit Shakespeare Festival, festival, arts,The BardHi friends! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and welcome to 2014! I'm not a fan of New Year's resolutions. I am of the belief that the time of year has nothing to do with change -- you can have a fresh start in the middle of July, if you're ready for it. But the idea of a new year does create a sentiment of change and new beginnings. So, with that said, I decided to share some of the things I am looking forward to in 2014 -- personal and professional -- especially, Shakespeare in Detroit's sophomore production, "Antony and Cleopatra."  A&C is hugely different than "Othello" because this time around I have a production team, and I am looking forward to letting go with this show. That means, I am working on my tendency to control every aspect or detail of the show and collaborating with other talented people to make this unique play possible. It's a new way of doing things for me and I am so excited to see what this new perspective and this new production process brings!  Thanks for tuning in! 00:14:00Detroit meets The BardnoHappy New Year everyone!
