Debate about single payer health care has been on the fringes of the larger conversation about the need for real health care reform. It is considered by most people to be a "liberal" idea for ideological reasons, but for economic reasons it can fairly be called conservative.

Since so many people call themselves "fiscally conservative and socially liberal," can we have a real debate without the ideology? We just might find that single payer fits that description. Obamacare has forced us to reopen the debate. As its flaws become ever more apparent, we must encourage Democrats who have fallen for the bait-and-switch that replaced a promise of universal health care with a bailout for the bankster-owned medical insurance industry.

On March 29 during the first hour, I discussed these issues with anarcho-capitalist commentator Jake Counts, host of We Are Not Cattle.  In the second, Abin Griffin talked about how the worker-owned economy is essential to building the type of society that is capable of supporting a sigle payer system with an aging population.
