Few issues have the potential to unite the left and right in the United States like opposition to the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012, which created the power to detain American citizens (or anyone else) indefinitely as part of the "War on Terror," which is proving itself to be a war on democracy.

Far from being the final nail in the coffin of self-rule in the US and the world, it may be the best hope that Americans will finally wake up to the clear and present danger they face. None of them will be free as long as any of them can be designated an enemy of the state by whatever puppet President happens to occupy the White House.
