Today we talked with Rich Forer, author of Breakthrough: Transforming Fear Into Compassion, A New Perspective on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

If you are one of the 99 percenters who believe that peace in the Mideast is impossible,  you may change your mind by the end of this podcast.

Rich is an American Jew who grew up a reflexive supporter of the Israeli government, as were most of his Jewish friends. After the second Lebanon invasion he briefly became a member of AIPAC.

His eyes were opened when a Jewish friend persuaded him to look at the side of the story not told by religious conservatives, the Israeli government or the corporate media in the US.

Telling the true history of the creation of Israel and the occupation of Palestine, Forer approaches these uncomfortable topics by citing primarily Jewish sources, including many Israelis who served in the military and the Israeli government, Rich hopes to get American Jews and Christians to take an objective look at the real history of the conflict and at where Israel's true security interests lie.

Forer also describes his personal transformation by  letting go of an identity that was sharply circumscribed by his conditioned belief in what it means to be a Jew.

He describes an exhilarating sense of liberation when he abandoned this notion of separateness from the rest of humanity. His story if thus about how he became a Soldier For Peace in the full sense of the term.
