On Wednesday night two cross town division rivals met for a game in primetime. All these games between these two teams are rough, and there usually great games to watch. St. Francis hosted Nichols in primetime, which was the first night game held at St. Francis in years. 1st Half- It was interesting to see the new faces on the Varsity soccer team. Obviuslly there were new faces because of the graduating players of last years team. I recognized some of the names of the players, but not the faces, and deffinatly not the play of them either. It's amazing how well these group of players have improved from there first year of Varsity.
HIGHLIGHT-
Goalie Ben Dicesare may have made the save of his High School career midway through the half. The Nichols forward was able to get a great shot of that shouldve gone in the net if it werent for Dicesare. Dicesare dove/slid and blocked the shot with his face. - Eric Smolarek called for interference with the goalie after the ball had been dropped by the goalie, tough call here. - The only goal of the game came from Clifford who found a loose ball in the box and did what your suppose to do, shoot, and he did and he burried it in the net.
- Smolarek called for a yellow card. He sat the rest of the half, but returned in the 2nd.
2nd Half
- Tempers continued as Schaffer was mixing it up and he actually flipped right over a Nichols player. - St. Francis had a great chance to put the game away and just missed it as the ball bounced right in front of the net. - Nichols had great chances to tie it, especially one that went just right of the goal post. SPORTESEDGE RADIO'S THREE STARS 1. Ben Dicesare- Dicesare made a great save in the first half, and played extremely well tonight. He also recorded a shut out first a strong team 2.
