Stop Yelling - 3 Simple Solutions For Keeping Your Cool With Uncooperative Kids

    in Parents

Parents have yelled at their kids, probably since the beginning of time. However, recent evidence shows that yelling at kids doesn't help them, it hurts them. Not only that, many moms and dads are stressed at the end of the day because they've yelled at their kids so much.

Bonnie and Thomas Liotta are committed to a world wide humanitarian movement to heal, unite and empower families and communities by bestowing them with the tools necessary to strengthen our standards, ethics and values while raising the next generation.

Today's guest is Rona Renner, author of "Is That Me Yelling?" A Parent's Guide to Getting Your Kids to Cooperate Without Losing Your Cool. Rona has had meaningful and varied work experiences for over forty five years. She draws upon her experience when consulting with a diverse population of parents, grandparents, teachers, and therapists.

Refrain from Yelling at Your Teen

    in Self Help

Anyone who has reared a teen, or who has been a teen, and that would include all of us, understands the level of frustration that can be felt by the adult(s) living in the same environment.  Teens may stay up way too late and then miss their school bus the next morning, enjoy a bedroom that is in a state of chaos, eat too little or too much, talk back, sluff their chores, and on and on.

Does your teen's unusual behavior drive you to raise your voice?  In other words, are you yelling at your teen?  Dr. Joan's advice is short and sweet.  Listen to her simple hints and then try them out.

Are you experiencing relationship issues at home, at work, or at play?  Tune in to hear Dr. Joan describe alternative solutions. Follow along as she presents keys to harmony.

A portion of each program is devoted to the reading of Dr. Joan's published stories about human dilemmas.  She is currently reading from her first novel Gra Im Thu! I Love You!  The story is about two Irish families who find themselves intermarrying, even though they are poles apart in the areas of religion and politics.  Tune in and listen, as the O'Gradys and Gwynns learn to solve their potato encounters (their disputes) and develop a method for making yummy mashed potatoes together (they learn to get along.)  Find out how diversity and harmony can live in the same house.

Tuesdays with Bobbi: Dear Vecino, #ICantBreathe

    in Politics Progressive

    PRESS RELEASE

Joint Statement from 3 of the Hit and Run Victims at a “Black Lives Matter” Demonstration at Riverside’s Festival of Lights

“We participated in a peaceful 'black lives matter demonstration' to gather with community members to highlight the public law enforcement practices that we believe are the product of systemic and societal racial discrimination. It was a demonstration to bring that message to Riverside, as others
have done and are doing throughout the country.

“Some members of the public openly expressed anger at the mostly black and Latino demonstrators. Protestors were yelled at, a Latina speaker was assaulted by a passer-by, and two men actively and violently pushed and shoved a number of people. And ultimately, we, along with others were plowed into by a white male driving a BMW. These actions only underscore how our society's consciousness view people of color differently.

“We thank the Riverside Police team for blocking off the street as the protest continued and their increased presence may have prevented further physical attacks from those in the public who disagreed."

“The narrative that it might have been accidental, or that the driver was gently trying to get through traffic is not accurate. The vehicle in front of the driver had made a u-turn. A few of us witnessed the female passenger in the car frantically yelling at the driver to stop.

“Finally, we ask for equal treatment and all due diligence by police no matter the race of the suspect or victims, or the reason for the public demonstration.”

    Gloria, Nikke and Bobbi

John Carver Show - It Starts with Declaring

    in Self Help

President John F. Kennedy delivered this speech, "Special Message to the Congress on Urgent National Needs," on May 25, 1961 before a joint session of Congress.

"landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth"

Kennedy declared the goal long before it was a reality.

    The DECLARATION PROCEEDS THE LEAP!

“Faith has to do with things that are not seen and hope with things that are not at hand.” Thomas Aquinas.

2 Corinthians 5:7  - "We walk by faith, not by sight."

"So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight." This is the ESV translation; other versions use the word "live" instead of "walk". Either way, it means the same thing. "Walk" is a metaphor for the way a person lives his or her life.

    Donner Atwood:

One night a house caught fire and a young boy was forced to flee to the roof. The father stood on the ground below with outstretched arms, calling to his son, "Jump! I'll catch you." He knew the boy had to jump to save his life. All the boy could see, however, was flame, smoke, and blackness. As can be imagined, he was afraid to leave the roof. His father kept yelling: "Jump! I will catch you." But the boy protested, "Daddy, I can't see you." The father replied, "But I can see you and that's all that matters."

God says TRUST ME even though you can’t see what you’re going to land!

Hitting, Biting and Kicking: How to Stop Aggressive Behavior in Young Children

    in Parents

It’s easy to respond to your child's aggression with yelling or anger, but remember, your child is looking to you for cues on how to control his impulses and have good behavior."

Step in and Stop it Immediately

At the first sign that your child is about to become aggressive, immediately step in and remove him from the situation. Be careful not to give too much attention to your child so that you do not give any negative reinforcement for the bad behavior.

    Lower Your Voice—Don’t Raise It

As parents, we need to show self-control and use gentle words if we want our kids to do the same. It’s easy to respond with yelling or anger, but remember, your child is looking to you for cues on how to control his impulses and have good behavior.

Practice Ways to De-fuse your Child’s Anger
For younger kids, help them recognize their anger by stating, “I know you're mad, but we don’t hit. No hitting!” For children aged 3-7, talk about anger as an important feeling.

Teach Kids that Aggression is Wrong
It’s also important to talk to your children about aggression during a calm moment. In a steady voice, explain to your child that hitting, biting, kicking, and other aggressive behaviors are wrong.

    Recognize Your Child’s Limitations

This means knowing when to leave a potentially volatile situation or choosing to engage your child in a different activity to avoid aggressive confrontations.
