    Growing A Parent Support Group

    in Parents

Jan Rao, Ex. Dir. of Willows In the Wind and Carrrie Weatherhead, Administrator for SavingTeens joined Lon Feb. 20, 2015 to explain the Parent Support program they are jointly developing.  Willows In the Wind has been offering parent support services for several years, and were asked by SavingTeens to help them develop a mentoring program for those parents looking for possible scholarship and partnership help for those children needing a therapeutic boarding school or wilderness therapy school or program.  The purpose of parent support groups or programs is to have a place where parents can go for help when they are desperate and need help and something more intensive for their children.  The system being developed by this collaboration is to support parents looking for help from SavingTeens and is a mentor based program where parents are matched with other parents who have gone through this heart wrenching search process of getting their children help.

    THIS WEEK’S MESSAGE:

Peer support for people with similar life experiences has proven to be tremendously important towards helping many move through difficult situations. These similar life experiences may include people who have lost children, people with alcohol and substance abuse problems, and etc.  In general, the value of peer support has been substantiated by the fact that people who have like experiences can better relate and can consequently offer more authentic empathy and validation. A Peer Support Group is a voluntary gathering of people with similar challenges to share experiences, reveal coping strategies and offer understanding. Tonight we will take a closer look at the peer support group concept through the eyes a newly formed organization whose mission is to embrace, educate and empower families and communities impacted by substance use disorder. Can a Peer Support Group be what you have been looking for?

Little did she suspect that her act of kindness would change her life forever. He followed her into her home and attacked her, leaving her with a choice to make at the tender age of 15. She could put everyone at risk and tell her story, or she could live with the fear and pain of what happened and protect her loved ones.

Nine Houses shares Mary’s inspiring story of adversity, abuse and escape. It reveals the heart-wrenching tale of a young girl forced into a tumultuous marriage that lasted for 30 years and how she overcame the pain that accompanied the truth of what happened.

Another homicide has rocked the small town of Fallsburg, NY. In a cabin nestled deep in the woods two male victims are discovered, both gun shot victims. One is deceased the other one is barely alive. But it is not the murder itself that has detectives Jean Whitley and her new partner Marty Keal frantic to find out the answers of what occurred in that cabin, but it is the identities of the two small children also found at the scene. One child is quickly identified but the other a young boy remains a mystery. The only one with possible answers lies with the man who lay critically wounded and unconscious in the hospital because the unidentified boy either can not or will not speak to tell the investigators who he is and what happened in that cabin that left one man dead and another barely hanging on …
