    WIOA: Smart Decision Making

    in Jobs

    Thursday, March 12  |  1:00 PM EST

Much has been said about smart decision-making in the development and implementation of national, state, and local public policy.  But what does that mean for workforce boards as they move towards WIOA implementation?  Scott Johnson, CEO of Social Solutions, says that WIOA creates the 'perfect storm' -- a time of significant change that delivers an opportunity for boards to rethink how they are managing performance and measuring outcomes.  You are invited to join host Ron Painter as he interviews Johnson how higher impacts can be achieved if boards 1) eliminate duplication of efforts, thereby conserving resources;  2) redirect efforts to activities that deliver measurable results; and 3) change the frequency and intensity of how we collect data and evidence. Don't miss this this discussion of how workforce organizations can take steps now to begin managing to outcomes in the new age of WIOA.

WIOA: Succeeding at Integrated Service Delivery

    in Jobs

    Thursday, March 19th  |  1:00 PM EDT

Under WIOA, workforce boards are asked to focus on providing streamlined and efficient career center services. How can boards build a model of integrated service delivery that results not only in cost savings and elevated customer service? More importantly, how will changes in these areas contribute to improvement in outcomes and impacts?  Moving to a truly integrated system requires a willingness to look at all aspects of board and staff operations to identify where improvements would result in stronger partnerships.  As a service provider and operator of career centers nationwide, KRA Corporation has already examined current practices and identified areas where change is needed to take service delivery to the next level.  Join host Ron Painter as he interviews KRA Vice President Don Scott, and KRA Director of Workforce Innovation Felicia Flournoy, for a conversation about how best to succeed at connecting the activities of service delivery to the strategic priorities of a workforce board.  With examples of best practices from around the country, this is a can't-miss show in our Workforce Central Forum 2015 series.

Adopting Social Software for Workforce Collaboration and Communication

    in Business

The TalentCulture #TChat Show is back live on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, from 7-8 pm ET (4-5 pm PT).

Last week we talked about the predictive power HR can bring, and this week we're going to talk about the adoption of social software for workforce collaboration and communication.

Social software today enables workforce collaboration and communication. The McKinsey Global Institute estimates productivity improves by 20-25% in organizations with connected employees, and the potential for revenue amounts to $1.3 trillion per year.

But the adoption of internal social media will require a strategic change management initiative to move away from email that still dominates the enterprise today.

Join TalentCulture #TChat Show co-founders and co-hosts Meghan M. Biro and Kevin W. Grossman as we talk about the adoption of social software for workforce collaboration and communication with this week’s guest: Shel Holtz, Principal of Holtz Communication + Technology and a prolific blogger and co-host of the first and longest-running communications podcast, For Immediate Release.

Thank you to all our TalentCulture sponsors and partners: Dice, TalentWise, Hootsuite, IBM, CareerBuilder, PeopleFluent, Jobvite, Predictive Analytics World for Workforce and HRmarketer Insight. And we're big CandE supporters!

    WIOA: Preparing for Success

    Wednesday, February 25th   |  1:00 PM EST

Workforce Boards are in many different stages of readiness when it comes to WIOA implementation. In NAWB's numerous conversations with the Department of Labor, we hear more and more that boards must not wait for the rulemaking to be completed to take steps to ready their operations and infrastructure for the requirements of the new Act.  The Training and Employment Guidance Letter 19-14 outlines a vision for the workforce system and initial implementation of WIOA, stating, "State and local workforce system leaders should take immediate action to achieve the vision of modernizing the workforce system and ensuring it operates as a comprehensive, integrated, and streamlined system that expands opportunities for all workers and businesses." But what should this immediate action be?

Byron Zuidema is the Employment and Training Administration's Deputy Asst Secretary, and is responsible for driving all technical assistance activities around the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.  On Wednesday, February 25th, Byron will join NAWB CEO and host Ron Painter for a Workforce Central interview on the Department's plans for technical assistance and guidance as workforce boards begin initial steps towards implementation. In addition, Byron will share insights on the actions boards should take now to develop their vision for their communities and regions, engage community partners at a higher level, and make sure their board infrastructure and operations are set up for success.  Don't miss this highly actionable discussion!

    WIOA: Measuring Economic Impact

    in Jobs

    WIOA: Measuring Economic Impact

    Wednesday, March 4th  |  1:00 PM - 1:30 PM EST

WIOA calls on workforce boards to track and report some new data elements including credentials attainment, measurable skills gain, training-related costs, and employer engagement. These figures each contribute to the economic impact a board has on its community and region. Boards are in various stages of readiness to track and meet these requirements.  How can your board position itself for better and more consistent data collection, decreased lag time for reporting, and measuring the 'intangibles' like work readiness in a more meaningful way?  Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI) turns labor market data into useful information that helps organizations understand the connection between economies, people, and work.  Join host Ron Painter and EMSI's consulting team for a discussion of best practices already in use by boards around the U.S. and a punch list of steps you can take now for improved measurement of your economic impact in the age of WIOA.

    Special Guests:

Brian Points, Director of Consulting Services, EMSI

John Hawkins, Senior Consultant, Workforce and Economic Development, EMSI

Elevating Business Engagement: Beyond Preparing the Job Seeker

    in Jobs

    Wednesday, February 18, 2015  |  1:00 PM - 1:30 PM EST

Elevating Business Engagement: Beyond Preparing the Job Seeker

Preparing job seekers to get them “employment ready” with the skills to meet the needs of businesses and industry is at the core of workforce development.  However, WIOA provides the workforce system with the flexibility to elevate our game and position ourselves within regional markets to engage business as a customer (with business services), as a partner (in sector strategies, apprenticeships, work-based learning) and even as a funder (to invest and leverage).   “It’s not about business learning workforce development; it’s about us learning business and translating that into our vernacular and our world—I think this is critical,” said NAWB President/CEO Ron Painter  in a recent video that focuses on WIOA and Business U.

Join Ron Painter for the Workforce Central Radio show at 1:00 PM EST on Wednesday, February 18th, as he interviews the executive leadership team from Business U in an exciting discussion about how workforce boards can make these key shifts to elevate business engagement in their regions.
