Women Hitting Men - Is There a Double Standard?

    in Relationships

Tonight’s topic is one that might ruffle a few feathers but one I think needs to be discussed.

Join us as we discuss a few very common questions: Is it ever Ok for a woman to hit, slap, punch, kick or otherwise hurt a man and the man not hit back? Is it ever Ok for a man to hit or hurt a woman?  What if she’s stronger than he is or out-weighs him?  If he hits back, is it ever self-defense? When do you think a man becomes a victim of abuse?  How do the dynamics change in a same sex relationship?

Call in to give your opinion on insight on this controversial topic!

    Beyond the Standard—Quitting Solitaire

    in Christianity

How does a Christian leader maintain integrity?

Four significant Christian leaders we know answered that question by looking to each other.

For more than a decade, these guys have vowed to get together, stay in touch with each other, and hold each other to standards of holiness that guard and guide their ministries and their personal lives.

Host Mark A. Taylor will ask them to explain how this works, in this lively discussion with all four of them . . .

Ben Cachiaras, senior pastor with Mountain Christian Church, Joppa, Maryland

Tim Harlow, senior pastor with Parkview Christian Church, Orland Park, Illinois

Eddie Lowen, lead minister with Westside Christian Church, Springfield, Illinois

Greg Nettle, president of Stadia, Irvine, California.

Read Eddie Lowen's description of how this group works in the October Christian Standard. (Find it in our digital edition via the free Christian Standard app for your phone or tablet.) Then come ready for insight--and probably several laughs--in a discussion you'll want to hear and share.

Beyond the Standard—Pursuing the Radical Center

    in Christianity

"In a world of polarized extremes, the most  difficult position isn't pumping your fist for one extreme or the other, but moving to the middle to shake hands in the radical center, embracing the truth on both sides of an issue."

That's the position of month's guest, Ben Cachiaras, who will talk with host Mark Taylor about all the implications and possibilities for embracing the genius of the "and."

Jesus was both fully human AND fully God, he points out. Jesus challenges us to teach believers AND preach to unbelievers AND do ministry in the world.

Read Ben's challenging article, along with those from several others, in the June issue of Christian Standard. And then tune in to see if you are one of those Cachiaras describes as "a new breed of Christian leader today . . . fed up with simplistic answers in a complex world."

    in Video Games

Happy New Year! Welcome back Sim gamers, were excited to kick off another year of Sim Standard Radio. Hope everyone had a great holiday season. Tonight we will be discussing year 3 on Next Gen consoles. What does that mean for gaming and what are you expecting? We will also revisit the topic in regards to the patching era. Are you in favor of patches? Are patches a good thing or bad thing? Are there too many patches that nerf realistic aspects of a sports game? This topic was inspired by the recent patch for NBA 2K16, many feel like the game has been nerfed drastically.

In addition to the patches we will discuss the benefits and negatives of implementing new engines in sports games. What is an engine problem vs a tech problem? Are some of the things we ask for able to be done with current engines? Once we are done with the topics we will open the line to the callers. We look forward to you guys being a big part of the discussion. See you guys at 8pm EST.

    Sim Standard Radio Ep.85 - Kirk Herbstreet,Hack A Drummond,Tyson in UFC, & More

    in Video Games

Whats up Sim Gamers. We are excited to bring another show to you guys this week. We have a few topics to discuss on tonight's show. We will also answer calls in between discussing topics in the order that they are received.  We look forward to all of your calls, thoughts, and comments. A brief description of tonight's topics is listed below.

Kirk Herbstreet recently bashed Ed O'Bannon for being part of the reason there isn't an NCAA Football game. Do you agree? How do you feel about Kirk's rant? Do you expect NCAA football to return?

There use to be a time when we all thought it was genius to Hack A Shaq to slow the game down and put a bad free throw shooter on the line to reduce the amount of points. Last night the Rockets applied the same tactics against Andre Drummond, which sent Drummond to the free throw line 36 times. Drummond would set a NBA record by missing 23 free throws and the Pistons still won the game. How do you feel about the Hack A Whowever? Is it fair? Is it corny? Should there be a rule put in place to prevent it?

Mike Tyson will have an Character in EA's UFC 2. How do you feel about Tyson being in the game? What does that mean for the Fight Night franchise? Is this just an attempt to attract more people to the product?

  • Beyond the Standard—Find & Keep the Volunteers You Need

    in Christianity

How to discover, mobilize, and thank the people who make your ministry happen

You know your ministry canNOT succeed without volunteers.

You know you need people who are capable, motivated, trained, and dependable.

But do you know how to get them?
And even more important, how to keep them?

In this episode, Christian Standard editor Mark A. Taylor talks with two local church leaders who have years of experience recruiting and energizing volunteers.

Susan Lawrence coordinates women’s ministries, small groups ministry, and Christian education at Taylorville (Illinois) Christian Church.

Melissa Sandel is director of ministries with West Side Christian Church, Springfield, Illinois.

Each of them wrote about thanking volunteers in the September Christian Standard, and each of them will help you keep the people you need where you serve.

Read their articles, and join our discussion about an issue crucial to every ministry leader.

Sim Standard Radio Ep. 84 - NBA Live paint scoring, 2K16 frustrations, and more

    in Video Games

Welcome back Sim Gamers! We are excited to bring another show to you this week. Tonight we will be focusing heavily on the issues with our current basketball titles. Despite the shortcomings NBA Live 16 produces a decent representation of basketball. It's just hard at times to get past the glaring issues, one of which would be scoring in the paint. Is it too easy? Is there room from improvement? How do you feel about this area of the game?

NBA 2K16 is widely known as the king of video game basketball. The game is far from perfect but does a great job with the overall details. The problem is the legacy issues in the game keep it from being an elite title. We would like to pose this question to you guys, what makes NBA 2K16 better than Madden NFL 16? This is a real question folks. We will discuss how NBA 2K16 is different than Madden but a like in more ways than you think.

Tonight we will go back to a more traditional format. We will take calls as they are received and will discuss our topics in between calls. We feel like this will give us the best opportunity to field more calls. We look foward to all of your calls, thoughts, and comments. See you guys at 8pm EST.
