Linda Bender, DVM - "Animal Wisdom"

    in Spirituality

This month, Suzane welcomes special guest, Linda Bender, DVM.

A passionate, animal advocate and educator, Dr. Linda Bender's love of the natural world began in her childhood backyard. From orphaned deer to blue jays prematurely bumped from their nests, animals in distress somehow found a way to her loving arms. Her innate rapport with animals inspired her to earn a doctorate in veterinary medicine.

During the fourteen years she spent living in England, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, Linda’s veterinary work included the rescue, rehabilitation, and protection of wildlife, often in remote areas. Working with zoos in Southeast Asia, she treated animals rescued from the wildlife trafficking trade and helped reintroduce them back into their natural habitats. Among those given a second chance at life were clouded leopards, tigers, orangutans, and numerous species of rare psittacine and passerine birds.  Working in the field with rarely encountered wildlife, she helped to develop treatment protocols.

For over twenty-five years, Linda has practiced meditation and studied many of the world’s wisdom traditions, including shamanism. Learning the traditions and ancient wisdom of indigenous people enriched her understanding of the sacred connection between humans, animals, and nature. These experiences helped shape her environmental consciousness and deepened her commitment to spirituality, conservation and animal advocacy.

A dedicated animal advocate and pro-active, grass-roots champion of animals both domestic and wild, Linda recently completed her first book, Animal Wisdom: Learning from the Spiritual Lives of Animals released in June of 2014. Her new book illuminates the undeniable ability for animals to restore our ecological, emotional and spiritual balance. Linda currently lectures and facilitates Animal Wisdom workshops worldwide.

Elaine Cooper,Fields of the Fatherless,The Road to Deer Run

    in Books

Author/Speaker Elaine Marie Cooper is a self-described history geek. Her bookshelves are filled with volumes about the American Revolution, an era she became fascinated with when growing up in Massachusetts.

Her passions are her family, her faith in Christ and writing—usually about the American Revolution, a frequent subject of her novels.

Her most recent publication is a definite change in her usual topic. Bethany’s Calendar is a non-fiction memoir of her daughter who died of a brain tumor in 2003. This is the book she never wanted to write, yet felt an inner prompting to pen her daughter’s  journey through terminal cancer. It has already touched many lives and her prayer is that it will help each reader, whether a caregiver, patient or friend of a patient. Or just anyone who faces an unimaginable struggle in their life.

Elaine is also a contributing writer to Fighting Fear, Winning the War at Home by Edie Melson, and I Choose You, a romance Anthology. Her freelance work has appeared in both newspapers and magazines, and she blogs regularly at http://ColonialQuills.blogspot.com.

    9:00pm/Est 8:00pm/Ct 7:00pm/Mt 6:00pm/Pt
Listen and Chat go to: http://prepperbroadcasting.com/listen-chat/

Today I will do a show on my “kit” for bow hunting and why I carry what I carry.  This will not include the basic items I carry for any trip to the woods, you know basic survival stuff like water, food, etc.

I am going to stick just to my kit for archery hunting, I will say a bit on the bow too, but most of that will be on a later show.  I will also talk about the type of knife I like for deer hunting, even though you always carry a knife.  Due to how flipping busy I am this week, todays show will be a little shorter than typical.

    The Unconscionable

    in Politics

Republican presidential candidates, Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, have made irresponsible comments about vaccines at a time when measles has reappeared in the United States. Their remarks call into question their judgment and their fitness for higher office.Washington Post Editorial Board

Mr. Christie, visiting a medical research laboratory in Cambridge, England, said that he, too, had vaccinated his children, but “I also understand that parents need to have some measure of choice in things as well. So that’s the balance that the government has to decide.”

Brian Deer exposed the bogus data behind claims that launched a worldwide scare over the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine, and reveals how the appearance of a link with autism was manufactured at a London medical school
The paper was published in the Lancet on 28 February 1998. It was retracted on 2 February 2010.2 Authored by Andrew Wakefield, John Walker-Smith, and 11 others from the Royal Free medical school, London, it reported on 12 developmentally challenged children,3 and triggered a decade long public health scare.
Unknown to Mr 11, Wakefield was working on a lawsuit,7 for which he sought a bowel-brain “syndrome” as its centrepiece. Claiming an undisclosed £150 (€180, $230) an hour through a Norfolk solicitor named Richard Barr, he had been confidentially 8 put on the payroll two years before the paper was published, eventually grossing him £435 643, plus expenses.JB
