Carolina Clay - The Story of Dave with Leonard Todd

    in History

Leonard Todd is the author of CAROLINA CLAY, the story of the slave potter known as Dave. Newsweek calls it “a fascinating account.” Publishers Weekly describes it as “a sweeping tale of the South itself.” It was a finalist for The National Award for Arts Writing, and it won the South Carolina Center for the Book Award for Writing. It is published by W. W. Norton.

Born in South Carolina, Leonard was educated at Yale University. He is a former Fulbright Scholar to France. He lived for many years in New York City, where he began his writing career with travel articles, short stories, and novels for young adults. Two of his novels, set in areas of the South that he knew well as a boy, were optioned for film productions.

Author Leonard Todd will be talking with us about the great ceramic artisan known as “Dave,” who lived in South Carolina during the 19th century. He was a potter, a poet, and a slave.

For many years, very few details were known about this enigmatic man. Leonard, however, discovered a startling personal link to him and set out to uncover his story. The prize-winning book, CAROLINA CLAY, is the result

Leonard now lives with his wife, a poet, in Edgefield, South Carolina, where he recently wrote the book, lyrics, and music for his first theatrical musical, SUNNY DAY, which had its premiere at the Edgefield County Theatre Company.

Leonard has told Dave’s story to audiences at the Smithsonian, at Oxford, on National Public Radio, and today he will be telling it to us.

Even though it's basketball season, UK Football is continuing to rack up more Yahtzees.  NSD is Wednesday, so we have a lot to look forward to if the entire class that has verbally commited follows through.

    Blue Justice with Ken Dye

    in Current Events

Founded out of a necessity to protect and insulate our heroes who stand that "Thin Blue Line" between civility and chaos.
For far too long the silent majority stood by and watched as the vocal minority fed their hate into the war on police in America. Now with the birth of yet another hate group (BLM movement) that singles out the 1% of our population that defends the other 99%, LESMA was born.

Our mission is to defend, insulate, represent and support these brave men and woman while they faithfully discharge their duties and sworn oaths. While the majority of the civilized world stands behind them we at LESMA promise to stand in front of them as guardians to our guardians. We promise to take on the battles that often times they themselves are not able to do themselves. To hold the media accountable for their often slanted reporting in order to increase ratings and increase advertising revenue. Holding Politicians accountable for their quick knee jerk reactions and statements that often times place the officers in the crosshairs of ne'er-do-wells. Corporations whose policies and procedures leave officers unfairly protected. To push for legislature that offers enhanced protections to our officers and first responders.

    in Soccer

Thad Bell from TheBlueTestament is joined by Mike Kuhn of Downthebyline fame and Steve Brisendine, Sporting KC's beat writer for mlssoccer.com to discuss the latest moves by Sporting Kansas City.

A lot of fans are not happy with some rcent moves.

First up, Krisztián Németh and SKC seemed to have parted less than amicably. Was it money for Nemeth? Was it oil dollars for SKC? Time to train for the Euros? Not enough chicken paprikash?

The other big move sees homegrown defender Erik Palmer-Brown sent on loan to Porto FC in Portugal. Money, experince? Roster room?

Squeezed in between all the controversial player moves the first preseason scrimmage took place.
