    Marcus Garvey Descendant Renaldo Ricketts!

    in Education

As We Celebrate President Obama's Historic, First Time Ever, African Summit, let us reflect on our history, Marcus Garvey,  Paul Cuffe and Ron Brown with Garvey's descendant, Renaldo Ricketts, Historian and Genealogist.

Cuffe, first a whaling ship captain, eventually became a ship owner, operating a number of vessels which sailed between ports along the coast of Massachusetts. By 1811 he was reputedly the wealthiest African American in the United States and the largest employer of free African Americans. Cuffe helped to establish “The Friendly Society of Sierra Leone,” a trading organization run by African Americans who had returned to West Africa. Cuffe and others hoped the success of this enterprise would establish business enterprises, generate a mass emigration of free blacks to West Africa who, once there would work to abolish slavery.

"Garvey and my great grand mother were cousins. While Garvey visited Panama he stayed at my great grand mother's home.. I'm currently searching for the photographs that were taken back then. I am currently restoring a family gem. A garvey Poster!"

    in Politics

Join us on Friday night at 11pm EST for a conversation about whaling, the environmental group Sea Shepherd, and whale conservation, with cinematographer and Wakayama University scholar Simon Wearne. Mr. Wearne, who filmed the first season of the acclaimed Whale Wars program, is now a scholar studying traditional Japanese whaling. We will ask Mr. Wearne about his journey from Sea Shepherd to Wakayama University, and how he walks the line between activists who want to protect whales from being hunted, and those who wish to preserve Japan's ancient whaling heritage.

Patricia Cori - Novelist (THE EMISSARY), Environmentalist, Spiritual Visionary

    in Paranormal

In her debut novel, THE EMISSARY, internationally renowned author/environmentalist/UFOlogist/spiritual visionary/adventurer Patricia Cori weaves a compelling fantasy that speaks to the future of life on this planet, and beyond.

Within minutes of each other, three chilling events take place around the globe. In Los Angeles, hundreds of blackbirds drop out of the sky, zapped dead mid-flight. In Maine, residents awaken to find miles of beach covered with countless fish. And in New Zealand, 150 whales and dolphins lie dead or dying on a resort beach. A strange grid-like pattern in the clouds hangs low and menacing over the desperate scene.

Jamie Hastings, psychic researcher and telepath, forges a deep soul connection with the dying whales, which leads to a journey at sea that reveals a conspiracy to annihilate a colony of peaceful alien beings that have formed a “city of lights” in the deep, which could also destroy all life on the planet in the process.

Patricia Cori is a go-to authority on alternative realities and exopolitics: both on ET/UFO questions, and interdimensional life forms that penetrate the multiverse. Cori is a regular columnist for UFO TODAY and she is the keynote speaker at the Glastonbury Symposium 7/2714.

Cori has been a key voice in the alternative media for decades, with seven bestselling books, published in more than 20 languages.

In 2012, she founded the global non-profit association, Save Earth’s Oceans, Inc., dedicated to restoring the balance of the fragile ocean ecosystems and saving the whales and dolphins from whaling, slaughter and exploitation.

Cori has now turned her talent to screenwriting, having completed a full-length feature script of THE EMISSARY.

    Whaling: Opportunities for African Americans

    Four Whalers of African Descent

The whaling industry, created several black abolitionists, entrepreneurs & philanthropists!

Whaling Centered until the 1870s in New Bedford, employed a large number of African Americans. This was in part due to the Quaker tradition of tolerance in the New Bedford area, but more importantly, to the large demand for manpower in an expanding industry requiring unusually large crews.

Some black seamen in the business were Americans, from the Northeast and the South, some were from the West Indies, and a significant group was from the Cape Verde Islands off the African coast. Whatever their origin, black seamen found acceptance as hard workers and skilled mariners in an industry that was physically demanding, dirty, and often financially unrewarding.

When the center of the industry moved to San Francisco in the 1870s, African Americans continued to form a large percentage of the crews. The whaling business was no doubt the largest employer of African Americans seamen on the West Coast until it ended shortly before World War I.
