Patrick's Tuesday Night Review with Author Wendy Oliveras

    in Books

8:30 PM Patricks Tuesday Night Review with Author Wendy Oliveras

"Lets Play SHESS Succeed in your game of life and business by playing chess: from Pawn to Queen" For too long women have had an old-fashion approach to learning chess. Historically, society has dominated the perception that chess is only for men and women have in turn perceived it as too boring, too intellectual, and time consuming. I believe your radio show would be a great platform to help spread my message and encourage women to learn to play chess because the chess-playing skills inherent in this fascinating game can be transferred into all daily activities, as well as business development. My ultimate goal in writing this book is to empower women globally through chess.

Let's Play Shess with Wendy Oliveras

    in Women

Wendy Oliveras is a proud Latina entrepreneur, author, columnist, search consultant, motivational speaker, and career mentor. She is Founder and CEO of Oliveras & Company, Inc., a legal search firm specializing in the recruitment of intellectual property attorneys and partners since 2001. Ms. Oliveras brings 32 years of combined hands-on experience in intellectual property law firms and attorney placement globally.

Ms. Oliveras has found a new avenue in which to inspire and motivate girls and women to become strategic thinkers and problem solvers by playing chess. "SHESS” is a creative play on two words -- "she" for female and "chess" for the game. The term represents “your game of life” and how a woman's way of approaching her life can be, intellectually and cognitively, elevated by incorporating the skills, tactics, and strategies learned by playing the game of chess. As a SHESS warrior, the world becomes her battlefield and how she confronts and handles challenges in life and business become her moves. From my perspective, chess is far more than just a "thinking" game, it is an influential women's empowerment tool." Author Wendy Oliveras

PMP: Wendy Callahan and writing Steampunk Fantasy

    in Spirituality

RevKess is pleased to get the opportunity to visit with Wendy Callahan, a Nebraskan author and steampunk novelist with an extensive background in Paganism and spirituality.

Note: The focus of the show went in a different direction at the request of Wendy. She wanted to talk about Pagan parenting, or more to the point, parenting as a Pagan. There is a difference. Tune in for the archive of the show to learn more about that. The topic of her writing came up towards the end of the show.

As her bio describes: "Wendy is a contemporary and steampunk fantasy author, co-author of "Steampunk for Simpletons," and a genealogical Nancy Drew in disguise. A college town New Englander turned one-horse town Nebraskan, she raises a cup of Dunkies to life among cornfields and coyotes. She is still pleasantly surprised that amber waves of grain exist, and has declared the Midwestern prairies "wicked cool."

"Her writing has been featured in “Witches & Pagans” (f.k.a. “newWitch”), “The Beltane Papers”, “If… A Journal of Spiritual Exploration” (f.k.a. “PagaNet News”), and many other publications."

RevKess first "met" Wendy over social networking a few years back and has devoured several of her fantasy novels and shared in conversations about writing. Adding her voice to the conversation, KaliSara will be talking parenting from a Pagan perspective with this multi-faceted guest.
