Julian Walker and Tyra B MRTR

    in Pop Culture

    Celebrating Over 150 Episodes!

Hosts: Jamel, Derrick Dwayne and Flash Gotti

#MyRealTalkRadio interviews Blackbird Star: Julian Walker and Singer/Songwriter: Tyra B.

Rookie actor Julian Walker is the breakout star in the poignant new film, "Blackbird." The coming-of-age drama, based on the 1986 novel by Larry Duplechan, tells the story of Randy Rousseau, a saintly choirboy in small-town America struggling to reconcile his sexuality and conflicting religious beliefs.

Born and raised in Petersburg, VA, Tyra knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. She started singing and dancing at talent shows in elementary school, and spent much of her free time practicing her craft. Her hard work paid off when, in 2004, at yet another one of these talent shows, a DJ from nearby Richmond was in the audience and decided to put her single, "Country Boy," on his radio show. Before too long she was a local celebrity, helped also by the success of her second single, "Still in Love," which led to an opening spot on Destiny's Child summer 2005 tour. Soon, she signed to Warner Bros., with plans made for her debut album, Introducing Tyra (which included the song "Get No Ooh Wee"), to be released. It wasn't until 2008, however, after yet another successful single, "Giving Me a Rush," hit the airwaves and television, that the singer, who was now calling herself Tyra B, issued her true debut, Past Due.

    Interview with Doc Walker

    in Music

With over 25 hit singles and 12 CCMAs in the past two decades, DOC WALKER's Chris Thorsteinson and Dave Wasyliw have seen it all - but at the end of the day, they know what - and who – is ultimately important.

That’s What I Call Love, a romantic tribute to their wives, follows the top ten single Put It Into Drive, the summer jam Shake It Like It’s Saturday Night and the catchy That’s How I Like It - all from their latest album called The 8th.

Manitoba's Doc Walker called on fans to submit family and love-inspired photos, giving other families and couples a chance to share their love. The pictures are featured in the lyric video for That's What I Call Love.

“Our music speaks to the pride we have in our roots, and the gratitude we have to the fans,” says lead singer Chris Thorsteinson, “and that is the most important thing. At the end of the day, all we want to do is write a record that we love, and that we know our fans are going to love and want to sing along to.”

Thats Novel Interview with Author J.M. Walker

    in Books

Join Stephanie when she interviews J.M. Walker on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.  J.M. blogs as well as writes bestselling Romance novels!

"When J.M. isn't working her Monday-Friday 9-5 job, she's spending her time reading, writing and with the love of her life.

She's an all around Canadian girl. Born and raised in a small city.

If you don't see J.M. writing, you'll find her with her nose in a book. Whether it's her words or someone else's, she's drawn to it.

J.M. loves stories with Alpha broken males and that need to be ripped apart and put back together again. Men that fall to their knees over a wink or a giggle from their females.

Two things you will never find J.M. without; her cell phone and lip gloss. If she has both of those items, you have a happy girl.

Since starting her writing adventure in 2013, J.M. has met many people, real life, online, in her head and she loves every single one of them. Without the support from others, none of this would be possible and she's grateful for all that has been given to her."

Historical Motown Records & Jack the Rapper w/ Author Walker Smith

    in Relationships

Welcome to the QPKS Network! Today we welcome, Author Walker Smith to talk the Historical Motown Records, Jack the Rapper and more!

    ABOUT WALKER SMITH

As the child of a jazz drummer and a book-addicted beatnik, Walker Smith grew up in a house filled with music and literature. The music bug bit first, and Walker was signed as a recording artist with the prestigious Casablanca label (under the name Bobbi Walker). But between studio sessions and appearances, she quietly pressed on with her creative writing and history studies. Three solo albums later, she walked away from the music business and headed for New York to pursue her real dream to write. She wrote interviews and articles for African Voices and Vertigo magazines, features for the Reel Sisters Film Festival, and a collaborative biography with black radio pioneer Jack the Rapper Gibson. After releasing her first historical novel  The Color Line , Walker Smith began work on what would   become her most personal novel--Bluestone Rondo.
