  • Voting is the best way to Look Out for your community

    in Elections

By Tricia Bailey, OurTown National News Editor,

So far from the truth, is that your vote does not count, so why vote?

And for the most part the voting systems make you feel more like a bother when you try to go vote. Jobs, traffic, taking children to school, are great excuses not to vote.

Whatever your excuse you can think of should be enough for about half the population of voters, not to vote. Below is a reson for you to reconsider the reason to vote.

    Why vote?

Vote because every election matters. Vote because the choices you will make matter. Vote because elections aren't simply about your representatives in Washington or who is president.

Who you choose this November to lead your local and state governments -- whether as your governor, mayor, city council member, or your state senator ---will have a serious impact on the life of your community.

When we vote for our state and local officials, we make choices that will have very direct and concrete effects on our daily lives.

Voting matters. When voters don't turn out to choose their local and state governments, they receive a government that doesn't represent them.

"Are we becoming a country out fat people wearing workout clothes? Are we accepting the fact that we can be separated divided and conquered by others? Are we being brainwashed about ,'The Power Of Your Vote?", asked The Look Out Lady, at a huge crowd this past weekend.

She adds, " I need other community leaders to become a Look Out Lady, A Look Out Man, A Look Out Girl, and and a Look Out Boy. By all means the first and most powerful way to protect those around you, is to VOTE. Moreover, the most important reason, is to vote for those too young or old to VOTE.

    Vote, November, 3, 2015!

    Voting Rights the Great Equalizer....

    in Politics Progressive

In America all we hear from the pundits and main stream media is how well candidates are fundraising and we as an Electorate follow that information to who we support in politcal races. However the majority of the money in these races are not spent trying to get your vote on the issues but is spent telling you how much money they can raise and slinging mud at the other person. Down South and Dirty will discuss the great equalizer and the weapon in which we can take our country back from the billionare class and send Bernie Sanders to the White House and elect good progressive candidates to help us make The American dream a reality again...Join us call in and join the discussion as we talk about the great Equalizer voting rights. United States citizenship & Voting

    in Legal

There are four ways to become a United States citizen (USC): 1) Birth in the US, 2) Birth Abroad, 3) Derivative Citizenship, and Naturalization. Generally, to naturalize, one has to be a green card holder/lawful permanent resident for five years. Exceptions, if your green card was obtained through marriage to a USC, it is three years.  If your spouse is a USC, in the US military and stationed abroad, it is much less than five years when one can apply for USC.  If your USC spouse is a stationed abroad, and working for a US company that is providing trade, commerce, and other significant benefits to the US, that five year requirement is much reduced. If you are 50 or older and have your green card for more than 20 years, you can take the test in your native language and you are exempt from the reading and writing portion of the test. If you are 55 or older and have your green card for 15 years or more, you can take the test in your native language and you are exempt from the reading and writing portions of the test. If you have a medical condition and a doctor sign off on Form N-648, you may get exempted for taking the entire test. You will still have to show that you are a person of good moral character, you  do not have major crimes, and you do not owe local, state, and/or federal taxes.

It is my opinion that each person who is a USC, 18 or older, and you do not have restricted liberties should vote. In Minnesota, one can register to vote and vote on Election Day. In Minnesota, one can register to vote Online, at the DMV, and at various other outlets.
