Rebroadcast: Today we’re going to discuss US Visa policy around foreigners who would like to invest in businesses in the US AND legally live in the US. The two programs we’re going to address are the E2 Visa (i.e. the "investor visa") and the EB5 Immigrant Investor program. Both require business investments in the US but have different levels of investment and create different legal status for the investor.
Joining us is Matt Roy, the founder of the New Atlantic Management Group. New Atlantic is a business advisory firm that helps foreign investors and entrepreneurs get started in the U.S. while meeting the complex requirements of these immigration programs. New Atlantic's mission is to support entrepreneurship, international trade, and foreign investment in the U.S.
Matt is also a Former U.S. Consular Officer with the State Department. He worked at the U.S Consulate General

For the change we need we have to focus on solutions Always ranting about already identified challenges of today without working on solutions is a waste that will come back to haunt us. Get out the charm. Use that charm to get a job for you or to open up job prospects for others. Make use of social networks to get jobs. Organize your efforts and put America back to work. Boycotts won't make a dent in the money members of ALEC have. We all must do more to make America better for all Americans. Find your niche and take a stand to help others.
You can use Boycotts, Strikes, OWS protest, Meet with business owners and managers in your community. Contact your elected officials and befriend them or their staff. Contact CEOs. Persuade ALEC members to give Americans jobs. Persuade F500 companies to give Americans jobs. Persuade DOW30 companies to hire Americans. Show H1B employers that hiring Americans is better than importing foreign workers. Convince outsourcing companies to hire Americans to do those manufacturing and service industry jobs in America. All Americans must get back to work, or we all will witness the decay of this land of opportunity.
We are our brothers keeper. We are to help according to our means. Maybe you cannot see any good reason for CEOs to hire Americans. You have a right to your opinion. I have a right to mine.
If you care beyond yourself, use those arguments for why Americans need to be working. Get some good arguments for why American Companies benefits from more people working than not. Contact Elected officials, CEOs and Managers and ask for jobs for you or for the millions of jobless Americans .
We have to decide if we want to live with poverty or if we want to organize and create a better America for all Americans.
I admit upfront that I wish we lived in a country where an economic argument to justify a policy that uplifts 11 million people — and reunites countless others with their families — was unnecesssary. That it would just be common sense. But politics can sometimes be ugly, and the people in decision making positions can forget that they're dealing with peoples' lives.
We should continue to remind decision makers that undocumented people are indeed people, and in the meantime we can talk economics. During the battle to pass the S. 744, the Senate immigration bill's (accurately named The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Modernization Act) most divisive top lines was whether we should favor so-called "skilled" or "unskilled" immigrant workers. This was a false choice, and reveals the classism and racism that diseased S.744 from the beginning. The idea that skilled workers add value to the economy and country while "unskilled" workers are a necessary evil that should be limited because they take American jobs during a time of high unemployment is a fallacy.
Aside from the fact that this emphasis has moved the U.S. immigration system away from familial-based immigration to an employment-based immigration system (again, peoples' lives?), this ignores the fact that so-called "unskilled" workers usually do dangerous work for very little pay. If you think that sitting behind a computer is more difficult than picking and carrying vegetables in the sun all day, then you probably have never done it. How do you feel about this? sound off tonight on CPT.
