Welcome to the TechSource podcast series. Today, we are speaking with Keith Maresca, Senior Sales Manager, Federal Desktop Virtualization Solutions at Dell, about key data center and virtualization trends for the federal government.
Welcome to the Federal Technology Insider Podcast series. There is a new emerging space in the IT sector called Service Virtualization and Nate Rushfinn, Principal Enterprise Architect at CA Technologies has been kind enough to share some insights into this new arena today.
Hyper-Convergence is defined by the virtualization of compute, network, storage technologies thus allowing logical objects to reside on any compatible hardware regardless of location. The Software Defined Data Center focuses on the end user solution and the process of providing these solutions in a Hyper-Converged Infrastructure. The modern data center is no longer restricted by brick and mortar walls.
For years, IT has used abstraction to create a commoditization of our infrastructure. Now there are formal names and products that take the commoditization to the next level. As hyper-convergence and the software defined data center begin the journey of maturing to the point where early adopters now have stories to tell, we can explore tool sets and best practices of expanding your data center beyond the four walls of your data centers.
Tune in on February 3rd as we discuss this trend and all the software companies that are working to support the modern data center. And don't forget to call in to ask a question or make a comment on the air and get an Amazon Gift Card at (347) 637-1009

When operators migrate to network functions virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN), one major challenge is figuring out how to manage the quality of services delivered in virtualized and hybrid environments. That’s the focus of an upcoming TM Forum Quick Insights report Virtualization: How to manage performance, where experts like Toby Ford, AT&T’s Assistant Vice President of Cloud Technology, Strategy and Planning, share how they’re addressing the challenge.
Part of the process includes deciding whether to have humans act on performance-related data or have the network automatically adjust itself, such as to meet service level agreements (SLAs). The latter model is what’s known as a closed-loop control system.
Some operators are reluctant to implement automated closed loops – at least initially – amid concerns about whether the technologies are mature enough to be trusted. But ultimately automation will be required for hyper-scale network clouds. Ford explains his thoughts about closed-loop management and how AT&T is addressing other virtualization challenges in this podcast.

Microsoft Azure has changed the game in cloud computing. And how did they do it? They stumbled across a very important attribute that was necessary for companies to adopt the cloud! Control! For us IT Admins to get that "Warm Fuzzy" and feel good about pitching the cloud to our leadership as a safe and profitable strategy, we needed two things. Security and Control. Security was always at the forefront of our needs. It was a must have, but for us to really be able to dip our toes into cloud computing outside of Software as a Service, we needed to be able to maintain control of our assets! Join us on this edition of Tech Talk presented by the SoftwareONE Radio Network as we discuss viable solutions that can help you today in a secure and controllable cloud environment! We will interview experts from Oracle, IBM, and Microsoft to discuss how Azure acts like our secondary datacenters more than any other cloud solution. We are also excited to have CommVault join us during our second segment to discuss how they are making it easier to use Azure for Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity and solution virtualization, all while we take your questions on the air. May 20th at 12:00 EDT we will be Tech Talking on the SoftwareONE Radio Network!
Microsoft SQL Server has changed in functionality and Licensing several times in the last 5 years. There have been a couple of changes in the way we purchase Microsoft SQL Server. However, if you are not paying attention close enough, you may need to purchase more SQL to keep what you have already paid for and are using in production. During the show, we will discuss these scenarios. We will also describe the best practice approach for aligning SQL Server Technologies to your business needs, allowing you to avoid over buying or over deploying SQL which could result in significant financial risks. We will also discuss how the new SQL technologies can be used to satisfy your business requirements through edition features, virtualization, and multitenancy. We will also discuss how Azure can either suppliment, enhance or even replace your SQL deployments to create a more cost effective and efficient infrastructure. So join us on Wednesday May 6th at 11:00 AM CDT and don't forget to call in with any questions that come to mind. We will discuss the answers on the air! The number to call is 347-637-1009.
