Rebroadcast of the long running radio program, "The Ave Maria Hour", a presentation of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. www.AtonementFriars.org
The Blessed Virgin Mary - This Ave Maria episode of the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary begins with the prophecies of Isaiah and others, and takes us through her life. The angel appears to Mary and tells her she will bear a Son and call Him Jesus. Her response is to say “let it be done to me according to Thy will.” As she raised her son, she kept in her heart these words, “Teach me thy way oh Lord and I will walk in the Truth.” Mary receives the body of her Son Jesus at Calvary, shedding tears over his body and for all the dead who will die in His name so that others may live. She becomes the Queen of Martyrs, is taken into heaven and her abode is in the full assembly of Saints. Jesus gives us his gentle mother, mother of Mercy and her compassion for all who call upon Him.
The British Virgin Islands, part of a volcanic archipelago in the Caribbean, is a British overseas territory comprising 4 main islands and many smaller ones. Tortola is home to the low-key capital, Road Town, and rainforested Sage Mountain National Park. On Virgin Gorda is The Baths, a labyrinth of beachside boulders.
The abolition of slavery occurred on 1 August 1834, and to this day it is celebrated by a three day public holiday on the first Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August in the British Virgin Islands. The original emancipation proclamation hangs in the High Court. However, the abolition of slavery was not the single event that it is sometimes supposed to have been. Emancipation freed a total of 5,792 slaves in the Territory, but at the time of abolition, there were already a considerable number of free blacks in the Territory, possibly as many as 2,000.
In January 1808, HMS Cerberus seized the American schooner, the Nancy with a cargo of enslaved Senegalese Africans in the Territory's waters; between August 1814 and February 1815 a further four ships' slave cargoes were seized from the Venus, the Manuella, the Atrevido and the Candelaria and a further 1,318 liberated slaves were deposited on Tortola's shores (of whom just over 1,000 survived).
In 1819, a Portuguese slave ship, the Donna Paula, was wrecked upon the reef at Anegada. The ship's crew and 235 slaves were saved from the wreckage. Further Spanish ships, enroute to Puerto Rico were reported wrecked on the reef at Anegada in 1817 and 1824, and their cargos settled on Tortola.
Although many of these former slaves died due to the appalling conditions that they were kept in during the transatlantic crossing, a large number survived, and had children. - Courtesy of wikipedia.org

Last week John Carpenter looks at the posibility of Mother Mary appearing in the Philippines between 1988-1993. It is still under investigation, so we can't say this is total fact, but we are looking at the information that is being studied. Many signs reported match many other authorized Marian apparitions. An estimated one million people gathered in a small Philippine town north of Manila on 6 March to witness a visitation of the Virgin Mary. Many people in the crowd, including top Philippine government officials, journalists, and the local Catholic bishop - acting as a representative of the Pope - attested to seeing a silhouette resembling the Virgin Mary appear above a guava tree for approximately five seconds. This was followed several minutes later by flashes of red, yellow and blue lights moving towards a "dancing sun".
The events took place at Apparition Hill in the small town of Agoo, in La Union province. A visionary boy, 16-year-old Judiel Nieva, says that the Virgin Mary has been appearing to him, and giving him messages, on the first Saturday of every month and on special religious feasts since 1989. The pilgrims gathered in Agoo on 6 March because the boy said the Virgin would appear at that particular place and time.
About a month earlier, a statue of the Virgin Mary owned by Judial Nieva's family began regularly weeping tears of blood. The phenomenon was witnessed by thousands during a noontime mass in February. An assistant to the nationâs President said that the statue was brought before his critically ill wife on two occasions, and both times she unexpectedly recovered. There are also reports that Communion wafers turn to flesh and blood in Nievaâs mouth. Another resident of the area said that his statue of the Virgin was also "shedding tears, which later turn blood red."

Please join us as William Araujo gives an insightful and educational look at what it is like to be a union carpenter running for mayor and governor in New Jersey. In his book, The Virgin Politician, he uses generalized descriptions of people, not wanting to concentrate on their actual names, rather his true learning experiences, as he takes a blue-collar journey through politics. Sometimes this book is shocking and sometimes this book is funny. Either way, it showcases an in-depth look at what it is like for the average person to get involved in politics, with absolutely no political experience....a true political virgin.
This show will also feature special guests, Sam Khan and Kristopher Sharp, who both have also navigated entry into the political world.
