(Scribner, 2005).  Merzer is also co-author of Unprocessed (2011), by Chef AJ; Food over Medicine (BenBella Books, 2013), with Pam Popper; and Better Than Vegan (BenBella Books, 2013), with Chef Del Sroufe. Merzer has had dozens of productions of his plays staged throughout the country, including two productions that toured to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.  Three of his plays have been published by Samuel French. Merzer is currently at work on a children’s book and his next novel.

    The Vegan Artist

    Bio:


    Lee Ann Thill is known to the DOC as a diabetes blogger and leader of diabetes community art projects, but since transitioning to a vegan lifestyle in 2013, her work as an activist and academic has been shifting and expanding. She has been exploring the relationships between veganism, intersectional justice, art, and diabetes. 


    Lee Ann has achieved a new level of health and happiness following a vegan lifestyle. In addition to her academic inquiry, she is excited to answer questions about going vegan, address common misunderstandings about veganism, and offer support to people who are interested in transitioning.


    She is a registered board-certified art therapist and Pennsylvania licensed professional counselor, doctoral student, professor of art therapy, artist, and volunteer with Peace Advocacy Network and Catskill Animal Sanctuary. Lee Ann has had type 1 diabetes since 1978.

    Get Fit,Stay Healthy

    In 2013, I turned 50 YEARS YOUNG, and I AM a proud member of the Baby Boomer generation! I PASSIONATELY BELIEVE that the aging process should be an experience filled with enlightenment, self-confidence, and increased fitness. The traditional mindset is that growing older is something to be feared and faced with submission (i.e. I will put on more weight, become less flexible, and experience declining energy). As for my own testimony, at no previous time have I been more fit, healthy, well, happier, and more prosperous than I am now! Through my own life example, and also through the transformed lives of the many client’s whom I have the privilege to coach, I wish to demonstrate that indeed life can be sweeter at 50 years and beyond!


    I seek to change the mindset of my clients to believing that with a committed effort towards regular exercise, proper diet and stress management, they too can live increasingly robust lives.
