Episode 23: Pacquiao vs. Algieri Post-fight

    in Sports

Manny Pacquiao delivered an impressive beatdown of Chris Algieri this past Saturday in Macua, China. Pac-Man was way too much for the outclassed upstart from Long Island. Manny Pacquiao looks better than ever and is primed for a big year in 2015.

Also on this very special Pacquaio vs Algieir post-fight special, the world was introduced on the largest stage to the future of boxing, 2-time Olympic gold medalist and legendary amateur turned pro, Vasyl Lomachenko. It isn't a question of if he will reach the top, it's simply a matter of when. Lomachenko delivered a very memorable showcase performance.

Kenny and Vin also look forward to the return of rising star and lightweight champion Terence Crawford as he gets set to square off with the tough and heavy-handed contender Ray Beltran next week in Crawford's hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

All of this and much more on a very special Pacquiao post-fight edition of the Tale of the Tape on Sports Rant Radio.

Manny Pacquiao vs Chris Algieri Recap

    in Sports

When your average doe-eyed, naive boxing card moves to Hollywood with delusions of being an entertaining, enthralling affair, yeah... Usually they fall short, but at least they gave it an honest effort. But this whole Manny Pacquiao vs Chris Algieri business? We knew that was woeful from the get-go. The main event was a mismatch, as were two more of the four-fight card. This week on TQBR Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules ridicule a lot of things about boxing, then look toward brighter pastures with Terence Crawford vs Ray Beltran coming up. It should get interesting, or at least contradictory. Thanks for tuning in!

Manny Pacquiao vs Christopher Algieri Undercard Review

    in Sports

On Saturday night, Manny Pacquiao will face Chris Algieri on HBO PPV, but on the undercard a bout looms that may focus more on where the division is going. Jessie Vargas will defend his WBA world lightweight title against Antonio DeMarco in what could be a coup de gras for who faces Pacquiao next if he is able to win.

Vargas has silently become a champion and built up a bit of hatred along the way, mostly unfairly. It essentially started as hatred and jealously in the begining as he was alined with Mayweather Promotions fighting on major pay-per-views for abnormal sums of money early in his career. Featherweight titlist Vasyl Lomachenko will make his first defense in one of the featured bouts on the undercard. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum made the announcement of Lomachenko's defense against mandatory challenger Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo at a news conference at the Venetian Macao that kicked off a six-city, 12-day media tour that will cover 27,273 miles in two countries, China and the United States. We will with out a shadow of a doubt be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. Manny Pacquiao vs Christopher Algieri Post Fight Review

    in Sports

Manny Pacquiao’s  aura of invincibility and dominance in the sport of boxing  continues after his outstanding performance in Macau, China. Chris Algieri did provide Pacquiao with a bit of a puzzle to solve in the early rounds, but eventually Pacquiao made the necessary adjustments to completely outclass his opponent.

From the opening bell Algieri remained tentative of avoiding any of Pacquiao’s power shots. He constantly used lateral movement, and Pacquiao had a difficult time cutting off the ring. Algieri was trying to get in a rhythm but accidentally slipped and the referee counted it as a knockdown. Algieri seemed flustered, but this was just the start of bad things to come. Manny Pacquiao vs Chris Algieri Preview with Brin-Jonathan Butler

    in Sports

Despite usual curmudgeonry (nobody that WE know), boxing is threatening to make good on its promise -- NAY -- its loose, non-binding, un-notarized agreement to end the year strong. Good fights are coming from surprising places, even. Heavyweights, if you can believe it. This week on TQBR Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Queensberry Rules' Patrick Connor welcome BWAA member and author Brin-Jonathan Butler to run the gauntlet. Who knows where the wind will take us? Butler's interview with Mike Tyson? Wladimir Klitschko's fun KO of Kubrat Pulev? An HBO Latino card (Remember those?)? Manny Pacquiao vs Chris Algieri... and Avocados? THE PPV UNDERCARD??????? We may even throw soome Nathan Cleverly vs Tony Bellew II in there. Thanks for tuning in!

Terence Crawford vs Yuriorkis Gamboa Preview with Rafe Bartholomew

    in Sports

Here at Queensberry Rules Radio, we hope that nobody is taking our prognostication skills seriously. Basically when we predict a fight will end a certain way, just assume the opposite will happen. For instance, last week we predicted that the fun Showtime tripleheader we watched would probably suck, and it didn't. Robert Guerrer-Yoshihiro Kamegai was surprisingly competitive, Vasyl Lomachenko's clinic win over Gary Russell Jr. was high quality stuff, and even Devon Alexander vs. Jesus Soto Karass had a few momenths of intrigue. This week on TQBR Radio, Bad Left Hook's James Foley and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules cover that card, probably incorrectly, and preview this weekend's HBO card featuring Terence Crawford vs Yuriorkis Gamboa. Joining the blustery bloggers this week is author and Grantland editor Rafe Bartholomew. Thanks for tuning in! (Photos in slideshow: Joe Miranda)
